Some say that the colour of the car doesn't really matter as to which wax you pick, others say it does.

I think its more about longevity. Something like purple haze is very easy to use, but won't last as long as a "hard wax", which can sometimes be a pain.

Far as prep goes, what does the paintwork look like now ? Is it swirled? has it been detailed recently ?

In my quest for insane wet look and depth you cant beat Polish Angel Escalate lotion and Angel Wax Dark Angel. I had people stop me asking about what I use

OP whatever wax you choose, check out Zaino Z-8 Grand Finale Spray. This stuff is amazing as a top up between washes and beads for weeks after. I use it on the Golf R and Porsche and the results are amazing.. Of course make sure you prep first before applying.

Depends what condition the paint is in.

Expensive wax on swirled paint is like polishing a turd - so start with the paint condition which is usually either bad enough to benefit from a proper machine polish, minor enough that you can correct by hand (with sore arms to go with it) or so minor that you can use a light polish or glaze to get the paint clean before waxing.

I had a diamond black metallic A4,

i used Prima Amigo polish, and collinte wax on top to protect it,

black is a nice colour for a car, for a day or two,

i could never understand why most were silver, i can know though!

I use Poor Boys World Black Hole polish and then Natty's Blue wax on my black GTS.

Easy to use products and gives a nice finish.

I found Petes 53 difficult to remove, gave up and bought a dodojuice soft wax which was much easier to use.

I've got a black R8 and use purple haze. Very easy to use and looks fantastic though the car did have a paint correction last September. Not the most durable but such a pleasure to use I tend to reapply every other wash!

I've been using Purple Haze for a while with good results, but I ran out and not having got round to ordering some more I bought a pot of Farecla G3 Super Gloss paste wax from Halfords. Seems to work perfectly well (although I did give it a machine polish first, so perhaps not entirely fair).

Dodo Juice Purple Haze Pro is excellent. It's their wax combined with a slither of sealant so it lasts for months.

I use the Zaino Z-8 mentioned above to finish after a wash to add an extra bit of zip in the sunlight. You barely need to use any of it so I've still got a bottle from two years ago which is no where near running out.

Depends on budget imo.

Either of the waxes you already have will be more that adequate if you prep the paint correctly.

However if you want to treat yourself then the waxes I tend to buy now are Mitchell & King.
