Help required from the experts here.....

Hi guys, just visiting from the BMW and Aston Martin forums.

I need some expert advice on an incident on my car yesterday.

While pulling out of the garage, I accidentally drove over a brand new 5 litre plastic bottle of synthetic engine oil. The bottle exploded and covered one side of my car in clean engine oil.

The car was polished and waxed to a very high, amateur standard, (nothing like you guys though), so I am reasonably happy the paintwork is protected. How the hell do I get the oil off without removing all the wax, or do I need to swallow the fact, only some truck wash will shift the oil, and my wax, and start again?

Suggestions please!!!

I would plan on starting again tbh. I bet that the oil itself will have removed much of the wax anyway. Just hit it with a degreaser to get the worst off, wash as normal, use a paint cleanser if you have one and then re wax.


On the plus side, at least it wasn't a bottle of brake fluid

No real way to get it off without using a solvent, and thus stripping the wax

sadly they do speak the truth... Solvent application, really good detox and wash down before reapplying top coats and LSP's.
