Yep, I don't use it to clean mud off etc but as a one stop shop it's great for paint/plastics/rubber /glass the lot!

Ok so for those of us who actually WASH our cars can I have some suggestions please for :-

Car Shampoo : I currently use AG shampoo is there any better I should try?

Detailing spray : I currently use meguiars gold is there any better I should try?

Wax : I dual action mop my car twice a year and then use meguiars carnuba wax - is there any better to use, i have used SRP which is really easy to use but doesnt last.

Not interested in "showroom shine" type products.

I am beginning to feel that PH has lost its ability to give advice on anything apart from what to do with the migrants...

I do regularly wash our car's actually,
But why diss something out of hand that you've not tried?
And no I would'nt smear grit around with it like in the advert but other than that I've found it to be a great product.
And the wife loves it for use around the house on shower screens etc.

I think car shampoos are much of a muchness. I use the AG stuff, and the Meguiars stuff and they both work.

If you aren't correcting the paint with polish with some cut, SRP applied by machine does a good job of covering up minor defects. Doesn't last, though, needs a coat of wax on top. We've got black cars, and I like Purple Haze, but last time I ran out I picked up some Farecla G3 wax from Halfords - I thought it was pretty good.

I think the differences between products, once you get beyond the Turtle Wax zone, are modest - diminishing returns.

Because waterless washes are for dust removal only and my cars dont sit in a showroom so there will always be grit and mud to contend with.

I'm specifically asking for advice on shampoo, wax and detailing spray. Showroom shine is detailing spray at best.

Easy. Just buffed off with a microfiber cloth. Less messy to remove than the SRP was.

I've only used detailing spray with a clay bar. To be honest, I suspect that for that application a weak shampoo solution is just as good and much cheaper.

I have always wondered whats in detailing spray, secret stuff!

I use it to minimise marring and water spots when drying off the car, it works really well and cuts drying time massively. Rinse car so the water sheets off leaving minimal water behind (because wax), then spray on detailing spray and wipe the remaining water beads off.

Schmels gut too.

Agreed... And, there are soooo many products on the market and everyone will have there go to's and favs, but generall, AG and Megs kit cover your bases.

Could try Zymol auto wash, or something form the Chemical Guys range, Zymol Carbon Wax or AG HD, or anyone of a dozen dodo juice or autofinesse products. Gtechniq also do an amazing range of sealants and permanent (well very long lasting) sealant products, but dearer but in my experience they are well worth the outlay. As for detailer, AG Rapid is good as is the Megs you mentioned but, got to a long way in my book to beat Nanolex Final Finish, especially if on a dark colour. Amazing stuff.

Hi hman,

Over the years like many I have been through 100's of different products and found most to be good if not brilliant at some level. But as with all there are are some stand outs among them. Here are a few of my favs that make on ward care a doddle

Nanolex Final finish. Yes. Easy to apply and buff, it lasts and I love it. But, it only lasts as long as your cleaning regime will allow. Hit anything with TFR or the like and you will be re-applying. The most amazing thing with this product is its ability to remove scale water marks etc on really hot dark colour panels and glass. I have 2 dark colour cars in the family, one black and even if it has sat in 30 degree plus sun for a few hrs (in there online test video they apply to panels up to 70 dgress and it removes water marks) this stuff just works. It appears to leave a protective film that lasts for a short period be that days or weeks, leaves a deep shine and beads well if that's your thing! It's not the cheapest but a little goes a long way.

Gtechniq C4 Permanent trim restorer. All the Gtechniq products I have tried and applied have been awesome. Again the cost is worth it as the durability delivers so well. I applied C4 to the black plastic on my 15 year old Honda Civic Aerodeck a year ago and they look brand new today with just normal washing. Saved money elsewhere on trim dressing products.

Gtechniq G1 Glass sealant. I applied this 50k miles ago to my glass and it still works today. it's like rain x on steroids.

Megs Endurance Tyre Gel. Again, once cleaned down the tyre seems to hang onto this stuff and a quick flash over on each wash sees them looking spot on. There are lots of great tyre products out there though.

Most Autoglym, Megs and Autosmart products do as they say on the tin. Autosmart G101 APC is a must have for home and car. Buy in concentrate and dilute. A liter lasts seemingly forever for general use, lots of valet guys I know swear by this stuff.

Autosmart Tardis - Tar and Glue remover. Some great products on the market again but this is hard to beat IMO.

I like Poorboys Black Hole and White Diamond Glazes for the quick on off fill and deep shine, though I find they both do the same thing no matter what the car colour, sealed in with a good wax they leave a deep glassy wet finish. But Autobrite extreme glaze or their Hellfire range are awesome too. Other AB products are also good and not bank breakers.

With regards the wax stage on a budget, I am not sure if they have been mentioned on this thread but FK1000P or Colliniite 476 are very very good, very durable, amazing beading qualities and Finishkare is a high temp paste wax so good for areas where temp can be a prob, lots use this on brake calipers, wheels etc. cool

P.S. Just in case any one is wondering, I don't sell any of these and don't have any relationships financial or otherwise with any manufacturer, just used a lot of diff stuff and these are some of my go to's. smile

I liked Black Hole, but I didn't think it did much that SRP doesn't.
