Hi everyone,

I have been considering a project of bringing a classic Austin sheerline back to life with a complete mechanical rebuild, but after a lot of consideration, this will be economically impossible.

My thoughts now are to 'graft' the body onto a doner car, something like a disco 300tdi.

Would any poster be able to advise me about this? I have absolutely no experience in the body work world!

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Don't. Pass it on to someone that can do a proper rebuild on it.
I'm not being funny but if you have no idea what you are doing with bodywork the concern is that this is going to end up as just another given up on project on ebay that no-one wants.

I don't think I stated my question very clearly.

I would like to get a car like a Land Rover discovery 300tdi, and lift off the panels of an Austin sheerline and attach them to the Land Rover.

I appreciate that this is a difficult job, but I was wondering....how difficult......any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Ps, in reply to an earlier poster, I'm not a quitter, and what I'm aiming to do is create a unique vehicle that has a huge amount of classic styling but with modern capabilities. I've researched the possibility of upgrading all of the austins mechanics, but this will be financially impractical.

OK interesting conversion a car body on a 4x4 chassis. Unless I'm thinking of the wrong Austin Sheerline.

I dont know much about the Austin sheerline but from the age of it I assume it body on frame construction like the Discovery which would make it much easier. Will be a lot of measuring up fabricating mounting points but I bet the end results will be interesting.

Could be British Leyline wink

Glad to hear that there are others watching rather than just naysayers.

Where would I get started on looking at ways of co joining the two? Any sites threads that you know of? Completely new to this!

I'd actually start with some crayons.

Like I suggested earlier, the Lexspace thread.

At first glance, I took the last comment to be a pxss take, but on second thoughts it would be sensible....however, I'm a head worker, and when I see it in my minds eye, I really see it. Kinda modified a defender before and also a Victorian railway carriage!

I just need some serious practical advice on this one. Ie, baby steps about starting off on fitting panels etc etc. I know this is a tall order, that's why I'd appreciate either a thread lead, or web site specialising in this, or even a book.

Cheers
