Some kind soul did this to my wife's car recently - can see a small mark although there's no paint damage, but the dent is a fair size and seems disproportionate to the mark on the body. Was hoping this could be a paintless repair job but sent the photo to a dent company and they said it's a body shop repair only. Was hoping to get a second opinion if it's possible from the photo?

Needs to be looked at by whoever you are thinking of getting to repair it whether that be a bodyshop or a PDR specialist.
Whilst I do sometimes get customers to send me photos I always insist on actually seeing the job before committing as a photo can be deceptive.

Thanks Paintman - company I spoke to wrote it off as a bodywork job, which I was surprised at as they hadn't seen it in the flesh. Was hoping to see if this was a broader opinion or whether it was worth me pursuing with other PDR companies, sounds like the latter might still be an option.

I'd still enquire with a couple more PDR companies, as Paintman said it's difficult to say without seeing it in the metal. The only thing which may/may not affect the repair from a PDR perspective is the dent is in theory right where the side impact beam is located in the door - making access/space tricky.

cheers

Hi Juggsy, Going by the pic, I would say thats a PDR job all day, just need the right guy with the right skills and knowledge to take it on as it isn't straight forward. As suggested by Summit the bracing in the door will be effecting the skin and so will need repairing to. Been in lots of these, PM me if you would like more assistance and info.

I have a similar ding thanks to an old lady who forgot to use her parking brake and her car rolled into my door. I have pulled out much of the dent after removing the inner door panel but some of the dent remains as there is a brace on the other side. I took it to a body repair shop and the chap quoted £550! That includes also painting the front fender and rear door so the paint blends in.

On that basis wouldn't the rear door then not blend in with the rear fender?

Is this just the chap trying it on?

What would be a fair price for just repairing (filling in etc) and painting the front door (only)?

Why are you trying to DIY it instead of claiming on her insurance?
If you paint just the door with the colour coat going to the edge of the panel then you are almost certainly going to see a difference between it & the adjacent panels. I expect your body man intends to blend the colour coat onto the rear door & then clearcoat the lot which would be normal.
