Corrosion on polished wheel rim

Hard to tell from that photo but that looks a bit like what I've seen on many e46 M3 wheels where a chip in the lacquer has allowed water / salt to get in and attack the polished wheel finish in a localised area so I'm guessing he has run unlacquered / unwaxed polished wheels over a wet / salty road.
If so I'm afraid it will need more than Autosol, the link below is a good guide but bear in mind that there's a lot of work involved in it which doesn't really come across in the descriptions:
