The wife's Mini is getting a build-up of algae on the hood. It disappears for a day or so after washing the car, but then comes back. What's the best way to get rid permanently please?

I'm thinking scrub it with a softish brush while washing the car.

>Pre rinse so hood is saturated
>Spray with a citrus cleaner or diluted all purpose cleaner...leave to dwell for 3-5mins
>Agitate with a horsehair style shoe brush
>Rinse thoroughly
Repeat step 2 and 3 if required

Once completely bone dry it's worth adding some protection to keep it looking decent for longer.

Gtechniq I1 or Gyeon Q2Fabric both excellent.

cheers

Chris

I have used a bleach solution washed off quickly, be careful though so as you don't discolour it. Proofing it after cleaning will help from algae building up.

I've used Renevo proofer before, it's pretty good.

I ordered this kit, just waiting for a couple of nice days to try it out.

To prevent it coming back, try to stop parking it in damp dark places.
Not always easy.

Thanks chaps. As to avoiding parking somewhere dark and damp, I'm afraid that's the way London is these days.......
