I want to paint a chassis and trailer. I have decided to strip it totally to the metal, so don't want to use anything like por-15. I know stripping to the metal will be much harder work, but I have decided it's the way to go. These are my desired steps:

1) strip to metal with angle grinder / drill wire brush and then clean thoroughly with alcohol.
2) use epoxy primer on bare metal
3) use a good top coat

If possible I don't want to have to do any more stages (sanding etc), and believe there are some top coats that you can put directly on epoxy primer. So what would people recommend?

I would say it doesn't matter, sanding is usually done to create a better finish which you won't need on a chassis.
There is a one coat Epoxy which is ideal for chassis, we used some on a car years ago and it's still sound. I can dig out the name when i'm at work if you like. One of the classic car mags did a test on it and it came out on top of everything else.

I'm wondering what kind of alcohol would be best suited to cleaning chassis though drunk

Edit; it's this: http://www.rust.co.uk/epoxy-mastic-rust-proofing-p...

Thanks for that it looks really good stuff. As for Alcohol I was going to use something like isopropyl alcohol

It's thick, very thick, so get the thinners, even then it's best daubed on with a brush.
Just use Standard Thinners to clean down; cheap & effective.
