In a moment of kindness/stupidity, I lent my Alpina to my ex-wife. She has thanked me by having it scratched during her care (not while driving, so st happens), and has emptied a full bottle of demon de-icer over the alpina mat in the rear footwell. Again, perhaps not her fault as she didn’t open the bottle and pour it out, but she left the bottle there, and clearly not very well tightened up.

To the point. How do I get 750ml or so of de-icer out of the mats and underlying carpet? I have soaked up as much as I can with kitchen paper but it’s soaked right into the carpet. The mats are stood up so that most of it will hopefully drip out. Then I guess hose them down?

Then I can get the scratches sorted…

Many thanks PH

Put a towel down with a heavy weight on top of it, this will work for either the carpet or the ex-wife.

Some cars have rubber grommets under the floor pan. Might be worth looking under the car to see of there is one, in which case they can be removed just using fingers. You can then get in the car and squish the carpet forcing liquid out and under the car.

Just don't ask how I know.

Carpet cleaner machine would be the best bet give the area a good soak and such as much as as possible
Guessing you don't have on however?

Thanks all. Very helpful. Particular recognition for the towel and heavy weights bow

I did weight it down (the kitchen paper on the carpet!) and will check today. It’s a sort of greasy liquid, so will likely need some form of carpet cleaner when I can sort that out.

Thanks PH!

Have moved to cat litter to try to absorb the remaining liquid. Not sure how good or bad an idea that will turn out to be.

Hire a wet vac or take it to a detailer.
