Auto Balm can be used as wax , well its a paste sealent really full of fillers .

If you want something over the top of Auto balm try a real wax like dodo juice ones / swiss vax / victorias wax or even auto glym HD wax , just dont use any products with cleaning agents or fine cut like need for speed / super resin polish / mer have as you will start to remove the auto balm

Did a bit of research around the product and it seems it's not an easy one to apply nonetheless, I cracked on, applying to a typical swirled and orange peeled Carbon Black E60, the car is usually treated to a local cheap hand car wash, so this really made it looks incredible.

The product really does have to be applied thinly or else it is very hard to remove, it was applied via a damp/wet foam applicator pad. it was treated to a cheap £5 hand car wash and dry before the minor detailing we was short on time. Then it was clayed down using BH clay and then auto balm applied.

Didn't get pictures at the time as it turned dark before completing, so here are some pictures of it, 3 days and 40 miles later, after some rain and motorway journeys.

The bootlid and the bonnet have more wax than the rest of the car, not sure it that's noticeable.

Love the product, just be sure to apply with a damp pad, very thinly and buff off straight away.

To give some idea of the usage the car's had, look at the dirt on the unprotected alloys compared to the protected paintwork.


Am I OK to apply Dodo Juice Purple Haze over the Autobalm, after about a week or 2?

I agree that the advice on DW with regards to topping Autobalm is more than a little confusing and contradictory.

As above, waxes will go on fine and do add to the depth and gloss. Be aware though that wax will effect the Autobalm and somewhat diminish its filling abilities. To my eyes, the end result of AB + wax is still better than wax alone on all but a perfect finish.

Your question above inspired me to finally get around to running a related test on AB + other products in various combinations that I'd been thinking about for a while. The test panel is now prepared so I'll try to get some photographs of it in daylight tomorrow. Although my test is geared more towards corrosion resistance, the results in terms of filling/depth/gloss are quite interesting.

I haven't had any luck at all with Auto Balm... did nothing for the swirls on my black Z06 and find SRP leaves a better finish (also had some Simoniz Teflon polish laying around and that knocked Auto Balm into a cocked hat in terms of beading, etc). Strange.
