nope neither am I but....

I am missing IT Crowd, Father Ted and the like.

So I got bored last weekend and after passing of a friend I had to keep my mind occupied.

I figured out how get UK TV (BBc Iplayer, 4od etc) for free on the laptop.

not sure about posting rules- nothing illegal just telling your laptop to use a UK based proxy- can i post here so people can do the same??

They are free to watch and I figure people over the years here paid more than enough licence fees, if anyone can confirm its OK I will post the simple procedure up here.

If it's using ExPatShield, I think it's been mentioned.

But if it's not, please let us know.

(I'm sure if it's legal, no-one will mind).

don't you have to pay for expat shield??

ok simple procedure and like I said totally free

Download Firefox internet explorer if you dont already have

in the add-on section download foxyproxy standard

close firefox after so it installs properly, re-open

go to xproxy.com and select GB from the dropdown list
make a note of a working proxy and port number

go into foxyproxy and add new proxy. enter details and name something you can remember such as PH PROXY

on main page next to the web address bar is a small box, click on it and it will say 'use PH PROXY for all URL's'

click and enable, search BBC Iplayer etc and hey presto you can watch it

bonus of this is, once Iplayer is up you click on the box to return to normal proxy and probably higher speed (if your on a slow connection) but you can continue watching iplayer. Just turn it on again to select new program

this works for ITV player, BBC Iplayer, 4OD - this is all I have tried and completely free!!

Awesome. I've not looked at ExPatSheild, but he heard it mentioned.

And most Proxy sites wanted a payment.

Will check this out, thank you!

(now to get it working on my xbox and ipad)

Using iPlayer outside the UK is 'illegal' too, but less likely to get you in trouble.

I prefer torrents, much more flexible - however the iPlayer desktop tool is great for auto series link.

unlikely the BBC will ever persue an infringement. we all know the major film companies will and do!
