We're now all packed and ready to head off to London tomorrow afternoon ahead of our flight on Friday morning.

We land Saturday afternoon to start our lives down under.

We arrived safe and well and having spent a week without internet and email down in Shoalwater, we've moved north to "little britian" - Mindarie.

I dont start work until next week so this week will be spent driving around other areas to try and find something which feels a little less new and where the houses have more than 4 foot between them.

Went to Coles in Mindarie at the weekend and we may as well have been in ASDA back in the UK.

Made the first sensible car choice of my life during a trip to John Hughes - I bought a Mazda 6 wagon.

My new MD lives in Mindarie so he sorted the place for us.

We've been looking at more permanent rentals this week and the northern suburbs are a lot cheaper - $395 a week here gets a 2 bed bungalow on a good plot just 10 mins from the sea. Down in hilarys or sorrento you'd pay 500+ for the same house but further from the sea. Those costs are per week so over a year that's a big difference.

Mindarie is miles away. We were up there the other week for a beer in the Whale and Ale.

It's more "Southern Gero" than "Northern Perth".

Where is your work based?

Ill be working in Landsdale.

We viewed a property in Hillarys yesterday which is a classic example of the worst house in the best street. Short walk to the beach and just round the corner from the shopping centre.

620 a week for a small 3 bed with a patio and no garden.

Sounds about right.

I'm 600 a week (and that's the lowest in our building) for a 2 bed apartment.
