Hey Bibbs - The mirror thing, have you got a link, that is a great idea for that massive blind spot! Is that however a roadworthy allowable item.....?

Ref the SatNav - For me I think that the cost and effort out way the benefit, my little iphone just about does the job.

I have not been able to get away with doing much to the motor. I replaced the rear door speakers and removed the central dash speaker. Overall effect is ... not discernably different! But atleast no wet fart sound from rear now! I am considering the lip spoiler replacement so I can see out teh rear window though... There is a tastey looking carbon part available which if partnered with carbon fibre mirror caps and a few accents could look good. Or just go for black. most improvemetns will probably have to wait to the new year / March now...

Just make sure you put you want RHS and Convex. The poor yanks get a little confused.

It's not a perfect fit, it's got a mm or 2 of wiggle room. But with tape it's fine. I may put a small bead of silicone around the edge to hold it later.

I'm sure it's not legal, but who can really tell.

My passenger side is already convex.

Carbon details are good, as long as it's real carbon. The UK guys seem to be plasti-dipping the fake stuff on everything. It looks awful.

But mirror covers, a Senator lip and maybe the Senator rear shade, should look nice.

Then a couple of Chev badges ..

And the thread on the VF Ute :-

Senator lip instead of whale tale is definitely a good swap mate. Is yours a R8 or GTS?

Spend today at a skid pan and race track down by the airport.

Good day out, and a few things of note.

The car weighs a lot. Must be pushing 2 tonne.
My brake pads are not great. The also smell awful when hot.
Stability control and MRC actually work well.
The auto box isn't actually bad in sports mode.
On a 32degree day, the car will run very, very warm.
It's not too hard to catch a slide, even on 20"s.

TC is a bit old school in the HSV, but it stops the tail coming out and introduces bags of understeer at speed.

Later models have selectable modes, and the latest VF has torque vectoring etc. Mine is just on/off.

With it off it was actually very predictable. Which I honestly wasn't expecting with 275 low profile tyres, 400+ hp and 2 tonnes of car.

Lockers are good as they do what they do 'naturally'. I can see where an ECU doing the same job is a bonus, but there is something about a mechanical system that inspires confidence.

The terrain response system in my Land Rover is astonishing, so much so that a first timer like me drove around Fraser Island on road tyres at full inflation and didn't get stuck once in sand.

The newer systems in the FFRR must be even better!

I got to do a drive day where one of the "events" was to take a WM Caprice V8 from a standing start to 80kmh and then swerve through cones without braking.

The ESC was very impressive, as was the car itself which spent the whole day being thrashed, and quite happily took it all.

And it was appreciated. smile

It does seem very cliquey in that sub-section.

What's the view on the new Gen F/VF Commodore?

I'm not that impressed by the standard VF but the HSV is a seriously desirable car and for $65k brand new not much comes close.

Only had a climb over the GTS. LSA motor, 9" diff make it the stand out. So does $100k price tag, but There are 2nd had ones for about 90k now.

The Clubby keeps the LS3 I think. So low to mid 300kw.

$100k's a little bit eye watering hey. I have seen the Clubbys with 340kw for about $70k new which is pretty good value if you ask me.

Is there much difference, power apart, between the LSA and LS3 motors? Is it really worth another $30k?...

Interesting how the poms are up in arms at 55kgbp for one but given what you get its pretty good value in comparison to say a 40k Golf....

$30k gives you a forged engine & blower, a 9" diff, and the torque vectoring stuff.

A Harrop blower is a smidge over 10k without fitting.

Defo worth it. If you can apply man maths like that you'll soon be looking at AMGs and thinking the "black" is a bargain.

For 55k it should be aimed at the m3, or base 911. Even with the exchange rate hitting 1.8, it's cheaper there.

laugh

I have a vested interested in this section to as it's where I'm hoping to turn up and I'd look forward to getting together in Perth for a meet or two.

Thoughts on the VF? Love it, if I didn't have future plans I'd be seriously tempted in putting down a deposit on a white one.

As it stands though I'd be happy if our emigration plans do come together but within a time scale that will allow me to bring my VXR8 over with me, then maybe a bit further down the line go for a VF GTS.

You guys seen many on the roads over there yet, HSV or Holden variants?

Loads.

Had a climb over a 645whp GTS. Seen a 9.9 sec vf ute with a 2.9 whipple.

Seen a V8SC driven by Lownes bomb up the high street, and see about 1 VF a day driving about.

See half a dozen VEs a day at least.

WA is still land of the V8 for the time being.

Ah, yes, I saw a couple of vids of Lowndesy down on St George's Terrace in the CBD, just by the junction at the Fujitsu building, think that must have been the Friday that I flew in to Perth, the weekend of the race at Barbagallo in May.
