Seen many VF's/Gen F HSV's? - is that what you were referring to?

I haven't seen many at all given what they are and I work in the middle of the city and do the freeway everyday.

Since it was released maybe 4 HSV varieties and 20 VF's.

If you look on Carsales.com.au there are more GEN F HSV's than normal VF Commodores on sale weirdly enough.

There is (or was) a waiting list for SSVs. I suspect any V8 had a customer so there is next to no dealer stock.

Wasn't there some spat between the dealers of new cars and carsales.com.au? Pretty sure that's why loads of VF's are not advertised.

Haven't seen many of the HSV GTS's in fact make that one! Seen quite a few R8's and SS's. There are a couple of Calais's at my work, including a V8 wagon. Seen a few VF SS police cars too.

Some new bits for my VEII SS!
Cost a bit more than the Redlines but then they will fit under 18inch stock wheels...but only just. They will fit under stock 19 SSV wheels too.
Will try and get a better picture when I rotate the wheels.

Firstly...clean your wheels...secondly...what are they?!

I need to replace my pads anyway....might sneek in some redlines but the poxy wheel situation puts me off.

Glad I've got big callipers out the box.

Should be putting in an OTR soon as well.

Then I'll get a tune (and tune the auto), and see where I get to from ~350whp base line.

I've already got an 'after-market' exhaust on it (no idea on the brand) and headers.

So an OTR and tune.

The VE boys here though all seem to be cam'ed and a few are blown now too.

I'll probably end up there .. but I'll wait a few years and see if getting into a Series2 VF GTS is a better option (or Camaro).

I honestly think, bang for buck, they can't be beaten.

How different do the V8's feel to the 6's and is the 8 worth the extra fuel cost?

Also, are Calais' much different to Commodores spec apart?

OT but news last night said the most stolen cars in Perth, of the top 10 I think 7 or 8 are Commodore variants (VY, VT, VE etc)

Not driven a 6 banger, so can't really comment. But when isn't a V8 worth it? hehe

I'm not surprised with being up in the theft charts.

The cars appeal to a certain demographic, where theft in their areas will be a high possibility, and they are a great car for hooning (and then setting fire to).

They are very common (in the top 3 of cars bought for a long time now), and with the lack of alarms/immobilisers it'll be easy if you know what you are doing.

Mine cars are always garaged, and I don't leave it unattended in rough areas. The Hilux is a lot more anonymous parked on the street.

I had a Calais for a little while, they have all the luxury stuff on them, the Calais V has more. I did notice the steering was a lot lighter than my SS , felt like no resistance. It was a nicer ride, but didn't handle as well. It was a Calais though, The Calais V gets more sporty suspension.
I can feel the difference between the V8 and the V8 with AFM, but haven't driven a six. When I get into the non AFM equipped car I nearly get done for speeding by the end of the street as the throttle is more responsive.

Thanks for that - good insight.

I see 07-09 Calais' seem good value and it would be nice to own a V8 just once but was unsure if they really add anything but a bigger fuel bill and if the outcome was worth it.

As an aside I was at the Barbagallo days on Papahet's thread and there was a 560bhp VE SS running a Walkinshaw Supercharger which was epically fast with the noise to go with it. Said it cost him $10k to get to that so imagine what you would have if you bought a V8 SS or Calais for sub-$20k and spent $10k - nice to end up with a 500-600bhp box of fun.

The red one?

That's Nick. He's currently Prez of the WA Commodore car club. 570+ @wheels at the last dyno day.

There are a few blown cars running about now.

In fact there is a tuner doing a drive in/out with a Magnuson 1900 for $10,500, or the 2300 for $12500.

1900 will be close to 600, the 2300 will be a bit more.

That's the one.

Was very fast, faster than anything else down the straight. Handling is another issue laugh

1900 2300? Speak austrlian man! wink

Considering $30k all up for one is pretty good.

We rip it into him for having 4x4 suspension.

Superchargers are rated in their displacement. So 1.9 litres or 2.3 litres.

1.9 is the standard.
