Will let you know if the wife decides on an upgrade. Think a proper intake would pump up the noise a bit, but I can't see me modding this heavily.

Just not into the hassle anymore.
Quoted for future reference.... I'm calling BS! wink

My mate in the UK has just finished (kinda) his S2000, supercharged, aero, suspension, wheels, brakes ...full set up....and now wants to sell it! Madness.....

I did get to chase him in an E46 M3 through some country lanes though. Whilst more powerful his car would not get into Vtec enough with this kind of power on country lanes to be able to get away from me. On a couple of nice straights though it soundded immense and would obviously disappear.

Our cars are a bit more brutish and slightly less nimble!

That's a point Bibbs...what gearbox does yours have? The T56 or the T6060 or whatever it is?

Most people I have spoken too who have these cars find they stall them a lot at first and there is a slight transmission shudder at low speeds coming off throttle... its a bit weird. The change is ok actually but I think the box is a bit of a tractor box in general...apparently a short shifter or ripshifter is supposed to even ot the gear selection a bit but I am not convinced...there are pretty expensive as well compared to the one I had in my scooby.

Ah an auto is that? Part of me thinks that's not a bad idea to be honest. I don't love the manual box in mine and as you say you can tune the auto.

Does it come with flappy paddles? i don't think so right?

Public servants getting more time off? Shocker! wink

Shame I just got my NSW licence really.

On a tangent, do you think that adding a MAF VCM intake will throw a code? I am inclined to think not and just get one and wait until I do exhuast for a tune. I don't think I will hurt it? I mean MX-5 and Scoob were both fine....this old tech V8 with MAF should be fine......

I would normally agree... however it seems that with the L98 (one of the reasons I bought it) is that the engine is so ridiculously strangled its easy to extract the power from it, this being one way. I mean a 6 litre V8 ONLY putting out 360bhp is pretty pathetic. 4 litre V8 Jag XK8 puts out 300...that's old now...

My understanding is you can get about 30kw with an intake and a tune, I think I'll get half of that with just an intake and I think it will rev more freely and sound better. Unfortunately I don't have the available folding...wait let me qualify that...I don't have funds that I can use justifiably... to spend on an exhaust, intake and tune. So it will be bit by bit. I think $550 (rip off by the way) for an intake should be my first step.

I'll still end up using it even if it throws a code and I have to take it off and wait for a tune and the rest.

VCM seems to be the best of the best as well, MAF when tuned seems to only be about 1kw off mafless...and it doesn't contravene the law.

Hahaha!

Yeah L98 ...better flowing heads...blah blah blah.... I don't really care. With the GTS you get a lot of the good stuff already and it looks like the performance model...mine looks like every other car on the raod! Ha!

I plan to do some mods. I'd *love* to get to 3000rwkw or 400hp which apparently is doable....It will take me a while though.

Detailed the hell out of mine at the weekend for the first time... Argh...its a big car! My MX-5 took half the time! Still, most swirlies pretty much gone I think.

PS (I'll be going MAF to stay on the right side of the law! Apparently these days tuners can get pretty much the same MAF or not).

Doesn't have one?! That's odd....perhaps it is the case only has to have one if it was manufatured with one and as long as it hits emissions then its ok....weird though.

What tyres did your's come with...I have bridgestones on the rear that will need replacing soon, I have ATR Achilles on the front which I think are rubbish. I have no pushed them but I had them before in the UK and they were cheap rubbish I inherited.

Made a new friend and compared motors a couple of weeks ago! Mine = standard sedan, his = tuned ute, cam, exhaust, intake, coil overs, wheels and soon brakes, clutch, enlarged intake manifold...sounds amazeballs!

Mine is cleaner though....I know, clutching at straws!

Rip shifter is a good mod but costly, full exhaust sounds great, also stock clutch on mine is crap. frown
Lit the rear up and the clutch pedal occasionally sticks to the floor... They all do it apparently! Even other GM cars using the same clutch gearbox combo! Oh well, 99% of the time no problem but a few launches and it plays up.

Couple if pics!

I don't like the bonnet vents - They are superfluos faff in my opinion!

I was looking at those exact wheels but in bright sliver. They clear bigger brakes as well apparently. But his rub and they are slightly rolled gaurds as well. Reminiscient of M3 E46 wheels though. If they did them in 19s I would prob get them if they clear the HSV brakes (a future mod).

His looked like it had been washed with bti of sand paper! Lol! I had just hit mine with my buffer. So it had hardly a single swirl.

Ute would be no good for me either, I will need four seats/doors come March....

Sounded awesome and went like stink though!

Nah - Not done it - Cannot be bothered to mess with learning all that stuff. Its over $400 but you get reimbursed $90 if you send back the module from JHP. there is a guy who will do it near Sydney for $200 but he takes out the stereo etc.

If we could organise a group buy from the States how many units would it take? If it worked out I would be happy to split the minimum with you, buy more than one and sell them on? Depends what the minimum is? And hope they definitely work on Aus cars!

Yeah I have read all of that pretty extensively. Its a load more time to invest to work it out and you could damage your radio and it would take ages of having it out of the car on a bench with a laptop and 3M clip and EEPROM reader and lots of trawling the web to look forscraps of info on where this stupid VIM hex location is. I don't know anything about hex, it doesn't look hard but I just don't have the time.

If I get desperate i'll just pay the cash but at the moment I would rather spend it on the sound track from the 8 cylinders and a bit more power.

If there is a more inexpensive way I am interested though! I have not yet used the video in much and I cannot really imagine I will to be frank!

Ok think I will take the plunge on a VCM OTR Intake this weekend retaining the MAF. Looks like it can be bolted straight on without tune so I will go for that as I fully intend to atleast catback it and then I'll probably use the OzTrack remote tune module.

Just got to do it in stealth so the missus doesn't get TOO upset! Ha!

We are having a kid in March - I'll buy a pram and she won't even notice the intake.

Plus she agreed that the intake on the little mx-5 was well worth it...so it stands to reason the same should be true of the Holden!

I'm disappointed my thread in Monaros and hHSV got no responses for fun mods. Oh well!
