The breathing mods will get you there easily I'd have thought. I read that the std headers on the SSVs were pretty restrictive.

More pics on this thread.

Now you're a proper bogan!!!

I like the GTS - actually thought the standard GTS alloys where very nice and should have been standard across all.

Bit nosy, but how much, km's and year?

Also, how noisy are the extras?

Private sale? I've seen quite a few cars with absolutely no stamped book, did you find the same when you were looking?

HSV and Hilux .. I'll dig the Bintang tshirt out (I actually own one). I prefer the exterior look over the E2/E3, but would have liked the LS3 and newer interior of the E3. Will make do till HSV add paddle shift to the VF.

Was up for $35k, done 77k kms, 2007. So an early one. From a dealer with FSH. We went to the Morley Holden dealer, and then up and down the Vic Park strip. This one was out near Carlisle station, but eventually sold by MrMagoo in Rivervale.

Stock the GTS was quiet. You could tell *something* was there, but put the window up and you'd not really notice. There was no drama, just felt like a big quick car (like a big engined 5 series).

This one seems to cough a little on startup, is a little burbly on idle and cruise, and barks on throttle. Still quiet for me, but I had an S2000 that was 103db at idle, and 130 at WOT. I'll get the Mrs to blat round the block soon and I'll have a listen from outside.

Steering is heavy (probably to do with the 245 width tyres and 20" wheels) but feels direct, gearbox is an auto, but seems to be pretty good.

The red interior looks vivid red in some photos but actually is a dark red and a lot less migraine inducing than it looks.

Not had a play with the TC/ESP, SportMode for the auto or the MRC suspension yet.

Agreed!

Its easy to take these for granted but it really is the last bastion of the mechanical era I feel.

Thanks for the outline - its not that huge amount of cash for the muscle.

Hopefully be able to have a look at/spin in it as I've not sampled HSV yet. Also keen to see if the MRC makes a difference.

We should defo have a weekend meetup somewhere (with a car park) for a few beers.

It's a lot of car for the cash. Okay it's not 'soft touch' dash etc, but that's not a deal breaker for me. The new VFs seem to have that and more fruit too.

I'm 6'4" and can sit in the back fine. Boot is massive. So it's fun and practical. Insurance was $900 (Hilux is $550 to compare).

When you compare the price to what else is out there, you get a 4 pot Merc or Bimmer, which I'm not overly confident on their reliability. The poverty spec German stuff is also pretty anonymous.

We were also browsing 90's jap stuff, but I've a feeling 20 year old Supras/Skylines/Soarers etc are just waiting to explode.

400+ bhp out the box, and the LS* engines are quite potent with a few mods. Should do reasonable economy too.

A lot of the cars with aftermarket exhausts on them have had the computer played with too.
Does it have a separate button for the sportmode on the auto next too the traction control/esp button?
After a certain period, 2007 or 2008 , sportmode buttons were removed on the VE auto. To engage sportmode, you just had to push the gear selector over into the tiptronic area. As long as you did not push the lever up or down, sportmode was/is engaged. If you moved the lever, the tiptronic stuff was engaged.
If you have the sportmode button, don't do the above otherwise, the car will probably stay in that gear and not be good to your gearbox.
For example neither of my cars have the sportmode button.

Bibbs - Get out and about this weekend? How did you go?

Weekend after next I am going to a family friends for the weekend and another guys is bring his heavily tuned (he went Cams) Ute version of my car...so it will be good to have a chat and gain from his experience...might even get to drive it to feel the difference that some $$$ will make. I think he has done headers, Cats, cams, exhaust intake and a tune and he gets about 460hp but I don't know exactly what model he has...I imagine that's flywheel figure as well...

Still, will be interesting....I'd probably stop short of cam, instead invest in some Brembos from the Redline model. I guess the benefit of the GTS is you get all of that already!

Went out for a short drive and had a play with the tip-tronic and sport-mode etc.

Actually scared myself. Compared to my old S2000 the engine braking is huge hehe , and the revs only go to 6500!

The wife then took it to go away for the week(end).

I've seen comments about intake/exhaust will give 15%, then a bit more on a re-map. If you start going cams, you can get 25% more HP over stock. That's huge when you start at 400hp. Be good to hear any comments about what he's done. I think a proper intake will be about as far as I go, if the rest has been done.

Cams sounds cheap & easy till you remember you've got to buy x2 of everything. hehe

I just want a smooth idle and no low rev issues. So for me, Exhaust F2B and intake/tune will be the limit. That should get me somewhere north of 400bhp, which I think will be fine as I don't want to have to be replacing clutches and suffering rough idle...spending a fortune. I am not that bored with the power I have yet and the noise if muted is still nice. I'll take my time getting there I think.

But will be good to see the difference. An extra 50hp for you should be easy as intake and tune.

And just to add, a local tuner has just had his new Gen-F GTS delivered. 40km on the clock and ran 467rwhp.

Yup, 6.2 SC.

576hp / 430kw (flywheel) is the advertised output. Will be a nice buy in 5 years.

Same price-ish as a yawn worthy 320d or a 335i ..

Yes, after the journeys of my other cars, I will end up on this route too, I suspect. My older cars both had cams in them. Idle tuning and general driveability suffers I reckon if the cams are too big.
About the limit on cams for me now would be the LS2 cam out of Bibbs GTS!

Will let you know if the wife decides on an upgrade. Think a proper intake would pump up the noise a bit, but I can't see me modding this heavily.

Just not into the hassle anymore.

I remember saying I've never mod my S2000 too.

And then I spent a small fortune on wheels/suspension/exhaust/cage/supercharger/bodykit .. new engine ..

hehe

My mate in the UK has just finished (kinda) his S2000, supercharged, aero, suspension, wheels, brakes ...full set up....and now wants to sell it! Madness.....

I did get to chase him in an E46 M3 through some country lanes though. Whilst more powerful his car would not get into Vtec enough with this kind of power on country lanes to be able to get away from me. On a couple of nice straights though it soundded immense and would obviously disappear.

Our cars are a bit more brutish and slightly less nimble!

That's a point Bibbs...what gearbox does yours have? The T56 or the T6060 or whatever it is?

Most people I have spoken too who have these cars find they stall them a lot at first and there is a slight transmission shudder at low speeds coming off throttle... its a bit weird. The change is ok actually but I think the box is a bit of a tractor box in general...apparently a short shifter or ripshifter is supposed to even ot the gear selection a bit but I am not convinced...there are pretty expensive as well compared to the one I had in my scooby.
