Very tempted to get one of these, the SS V Redline saloon but would have to be auto because of my wife.

Any one know what the auto's are like on these? I know it loses 10KW of power if you choose the auto option, does this mean the gearbox is not capable of handling power mods?

For the price though, there is nothing that really comes close especially with the new interior and all the tech as standard.

The only lingering doubt is I prefer Fords and was thinking about an FPV GT or F6 - think they look and sound better, but their interior is getting on a bit.

It is to do with the AFM or shutting down cylinders on the Autos. The manuals don't have that version of the engine. The early VE Commodores didn't have AFM on either the manuals or the autos. The gearboxes are pretty strong, a lot stronger than the 4 speeds in the VT-VZ cars.
If they had put the 6.2 in the VF SS like they are doing for the US versions, I would have been down the showroom!
GT and F6! yes I like them too, an F6 would do me, but after following a GS on one of our drives, the engine in that is pretty fancy too, so a GT would be nice too.

I had a G6 Turbo which was ace, and the F6 isn't that far off that, but it is quite dated now, there is newer one out next year and for modernity the VF is obviously a step ahead.

This might appeal - http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and-reviews/car news/walkinshaw_supercharger_packs_new_car_sales_price

457kw and 780 nm for $19k!

612bhp for $70k all up is phenomenal value.

Not seen many new VF's around surprisingly and unless its a top spec VF SS on big wheels they look a bit 'top heavy'

I think the clutch / manual box on these is pretty good, but so is the auto, from what I have read. Get a bit more power in the manual?? My early VE the manual is a bit st. Prob should have got the Auto ... I think in the VF it just comes down to what type of driving you do mostly and whether you will miss a manual.

I think that's an Auto. I'll have a look later and let you know.

Just to bump this with an update.

Called in to see how Ed's GTS is progressing, as Sniper has stated it's now running less boost (around 15 pound) and much cooler intake and now on E85, oh did I mention Ed's installed the Eaton 2300 blower about 3 months ago which still looks OEM, he has also changed the throttle body and installed a VCM OTR, great work.

The current results are well over 800 HP and 1500 NM to the rear wheel, we went for a quick spin and man oh man I'm not afraid to say I now don't like sitting in the passenger’s seat, it is a weapon, give me the wheel anytime . It is the most powerful car I have ever been in, with TC off at around 80 klm it just hooked up and pulled and pulled, man it's so friggin quick but as usual smooth as silk when cruising.

The attached chart is from 3 weeks back and shows 729 HP & around 1280 NM to the RW this is before mods mentioned by Sniper and the VCM, E85 etc, I plan to call in for an update in a couple of weeks’ time and hopefully an updated chart.
