There are loads of good sleepy options scratched from the list due to auto/DSG stuff. I've tried to talk myself around, I really have. Non negotiable.

Are you any good at removing and porting heads?

Fair enough.

I'm good at nodding sagely, kicking the tyres, fiddling with some wires under the bonnet and then saying "probably the fuel pump" if that helps?

Slightly back on topic (I think) but this seems like an awful lot of car for the money. In case the Carsales link doesn't work it's a 2003 Audi A8 with the 4.2 V8 for $15k. It's done a few Kay's but is one owner with FSH. Oh, and it's gold with beige leather. But still a reasonable way to barge around, non?

Recently departed (Aus) gollum could have had you a better one for literally half the price. Not sure what the result of that was.

I'm sure that I saw that Audi the other day in Sydney on Anzac Parade by Moore Park. It was the same colour and I remember seeing the twin exhausts either side so I wasn't sure if it was an S8 but the front didn't have the badges or the chrome mirrors so more than likely was that car as I can't imagine there are two A8's in Sydney with the same colour and exhausts set up. It sounded pretty decent when he pulled away from the lights and he was giving it the beans.

O/T how do I include peoples conversations in my reply like other people do. The only option I see is for reply to topic which just starts a blank reply without any reference to the previous replier.

Above the person's post, there is a 'quote'/'quote all'.

Click that.

The 'quote' will do their last msg, the 'all' does everything in their post.

Ok got it now, I'm sure that it wasn't there before. Maybe I need to go to "Specsavers".

Thats lovely. What are they like to drive?

Today this:

Dont mind the colour but on those wheels with a Q2 diff, Ragazzon exhaust for what, $15-17k all up - lovely.

Still dreaming of a nice daily with a manual box and something exciting but its not easy here...

Interesting comparison between porsche 993 & 996 turbo prices. There's 3 993 T's on carsales between 160-215k but you can pick up a v tidy 996 T for under 70k - seems ALOT of car for the money.

Or how about a BMW E30 M3 for 35k?

BUT best of all is a Mitsi Tomi Makinnen Edition for around 20k.

Yes it does. I've been in my mate's 996TTS, inc around Phillip Island. An astonishing car, you'd never want for anything more. At $70k it's silly value. It's also the most license-dangerous car in Australia though.

ETA: just look at the other 996tt threads on here, nothing but awe with a healthy dose of value...

I've never liked BMWs, maybe it is because when I was growing up in the UK they were driven by knobs.

My dislike has been further reinforced by their recent addition of a 4 door 6 series (I mean FFS what is that about), their increasingly stupid product offerings like giant hatchback SUVs, and the travesty of Mini's as big as Range Rovers.

Anyway, everybody knows there is only on proper 6 series:

I love the look of the recent 6 series but PomBstard will be along shortly to support your theory smile

I'd agree with all of that.

I'd have an original M3, the original M1 and maybe an 8 series .. everything else is just 'eurgh' to me.

Absolutely agreed, for me it has to be the -really- early ones with the skinny bumpers, 14" wheels, and no silly plastic spoilery bits added.
