One of the best looking cars ever to come out of Japan, but just fabulous or an overrated financial mess?

Small interior, engine can be fragile, doesn't like short trips (if it doesn't get warm, it floods the engine and wont re-start), quite dated on the toys ..

I'd have one in an instant, thrash it, and when the engine goes pop, drop in an LS.

They are great to look at, well put together, great handling and getting quite rare now.

When I occasionally see one, they defo get noticed.

You can also do silly things with the 13B. I think they are using some of the better bits out the RX8 in them now to make it more reliable.

Yeah they look fab. One of the few cars when modded that can still look desirable. If only I wasnt a middle aged man with children and thought i'd look like a nobber driving one laugh

You kids really do lack confidence. The only people who look like a "nobber" are those who really are one, or worry about looking like one.

I prefer the S2000 my self. With the hood down, it gives the peasants a better view, & we really shouldn't deprive them should we.

Same gearbox, diff and brakes I believe. I even ran BBS RX alloys on my Honda (which are stock items on the RX7).

I liked my Honda, but it needed boost, which the 13B delivers in spades.

Yep always loved them, but it is such a hassle putting the roof down. Well at least it is in the ones we got here.

I love the Looks of the RX-7.

The engine swap is one of those things you see many people start, but very few people finish... interesting that. My tame engine swap guru says there are significant technical difficulties in actually getting a V8 to play nicely in them - not due to weight distribution, more due to having to cut out half the floorpan and completely re-loom the car, which stumps most people.

There's one that competes in the Rally Sprint we do. I say compete.... it is usually being worked on frantically rather than actually moving under it's own power. IT sounds utterly demonic as he loads it onto his trailer though.....
Did you say 'group buy'?... wink

I quite fancy one of these when we move to Perth, any thoughts?

With you on the Caprice's Moto, especially the HSV. Having much love for the Aussie Mafia car. If it was in the UK people would be loving them.

I must say the latest HSV Senator is somewhat 'mmmm'. All I can say is 'exhausts'.

I sat in the first VF VXR8 a couple of weeks ago here in the UK, it is a massive improvement over the VE VXR8 I have. The interior is totally revamped and Holden/HSV/Vauxhall have certainly upped the game there.

The engine and exhaust sounds like it always should have done, fantastic exhaust note when the bi modal valves are open.

In Autocar this week the new VXR8 GTS was pitched against the M5 and E63 and the VXR8 came out top by quite a margin, and not just because of the price.

I think the new VF platform looks great regardless of what badge it's wearing, well done GM.

Very capable off road, cramped in the rear with poor visibility, not great on fuel but they have a 150L tank as standard....

We wouldn't mind one TBH.
Cool cheers. Wouldn't be a daily runner as I'm looking to do the train commute so not overly worried on fuel. This is a possible alternative if I don't bring the Supercharged VXR8 over.

I think they are based on the Hilux chassis, but have a few of the Prado toys.

The local Toyota dealer has 3 on the forecourt. Black, white and a peach colour I think.

I personally jump in the TRD Hilux they have. But then I'd be bringing the Vauxhall too.

Cheers guys, will have a poke around when I get there then (hopefully). I'd still love to bring my Supercharged beast out but I need to be sensible about the costs and of course the time delay in getting it there.

Flying out to Perth at 11:30 tomorrow to meet the prospective employer, expecting a pretty full on day on Thursday meeting lots of people, hopefully they'll get to see me as I am and that I'm exactly what it says on the tin! Really excited about meeting them for the day.

My taste in cars appears to have gone even odder than it already was. Browsing the net over the last few weeks has resulted in the addition of a 1981 Citroen CX from eBay and an 89 Rover Sterling from Gumtree to my ever extending fleet... The Rover especially I know is an odd choice, but hey, I like it.

Also bought an 81 w126 Merc 280SE for $500 that we're running in the Sh*tbox rally in June, it's a complete shed, but has got me contemplating finding a really good one to keep - either a 500 or 560SEL.

Right, which would you buy?

Before you answer 'none' be aware 'none' is not a good answer laugh

I had a 156 a few years ago, put 40k miles on it without issue, loved it so happy to have another.

159 will be an auto JTD, c.2010, 60-70k Kms for about $20-24k.

GT will be a 6 cyl, black or red, 70-100k Kms from about $16-20k

159 nice n sensible. GT just because. Would prefer an auto car but heart is tempted to go manual.

May not happen but just wondering...

The 159. It is a prettier, better proportioned car I think.

The GT looks a bit awkward, but maybe that is just in pictures.

Today's finds are this:

Dealer, RWC etc, 265k km $7499 drive away.

or this:

Private sale, RWC, 365k km, $7990

Saw one in town a few weeks ago with a childseat in the back - so junior's booster would fit okay.

Blue one has a towbar, so extra practicality smile

Almost impossible for SWMBO to argue against it biggrin

(Apart from the fact I still haven't got rid of the Falcon).

The 159 is rather lovely yes. I think it's the pic of the GT is perhaps the issue as in the flesh on the multi spokes (18's?) it's lovely - ageing really well.

I prefer the GT exterior but not sure about its 147 interior. There the 159 wins.

Agreed TI spec only - the non TI is pretty dull.

I heard the 3.2 isn't great in the 159 - certainly not an Alfa 6 of old - thoughts?

I thought the JTD in Auto would be a nice torquey cruiser.

That blue one would be nice on original wheels for sure.
