Doe these make sense here?

Or is there a logical reason that all nearly new fast wagons have a Holden badge?

Because you gotta have one to tow the XYZ. Despite 80% of owners not actually owning an XYZ.

That and you're a poofta if you buy a euro.

Basically reverse badge snobbery. Buy whatever you want. Liking the new Skoda wagon actually. Seems very good value for money. The Commodore Sportswagon seems pretty impressive as well. I'd take either of them over the VW.

Wow, almost $40,000 for a second hand 2.0L gutless toy.

No wonder they are over stocked.

A low 7 second 0-100 family wagon for under 40k seems pretty good value to me.

Exactly. For people who can only justify running one car (for logistical or financial reasons) who have a family and/or dogs nad also enjoy an occasional enthusiastic drive, they're very good value.

Not everyone has the space or the money to run a Kluger for the shopping run, a Corolla for the school run, a Land Cruiser for the weekend and a 2 seater for fun.

You mean I'd actually have to try and see that other people are quite content to live a life that is different in priorities than how I have chosen to live mine? Actually show empathy and understanding?

Impossible.

Well, they have tanked in the last 12 months, they were asking 40k plus.
probably good buying i would think.
3.6l, 4wd, dsg.

should be a somewhat reasonable platform for a bit of hooning.

(just stuck my nose in at BMW south melbourne.....F31 328i Msport with a few options, quoted north of 90k, 3 month delivery.)

I thought they'd come down a lot since I last looked but couldnt remember the figures. A guy called in on us at work with one about 12 months ago and I looked online for pricing to find them "expensive" - Today they dont seem that bad which means I'm either better off than I was then or the car is cheaper laugh

Kinda been looking at a lot of this sort of thing recently. Whilst I'm looking for something a bit bigger, I have come to the conclusion that a VF Commodore with the 6.0 V8 does seem to represent pretty good value for money. For $35-40k, the choice might be one of the aforementioned VW or Skoda, or a 7-year-old Merc with 175,000km which does look good but probably a few bills ahead of it and has just about the same power as...

...a one-year-old Commodore. Thankfully, we don't all want the same thing!

I think the DSG rep has hit resale hard. Noticed that manual GTIs and Rs are now selling at a premium.

Reckon so - came up in my search for a 7-seater. Could solve the 'fast wagon or big 7 seater' conundrum for me but I know I'd be constantly on the prowl for a big bill!

Whilst I'm now struggling to think of precise examples, my gut tells me this is true for other sporty stuff - DSG/self-shifting box is the preferred option when new, but the secondhand market values manual versions higher.

Air suspension is v. exy to replace and is probably due. If its had all he work done its a great car for the money - am I mad for saying that about an Aus car of any kind?!

VW reliability isn't great. The trade on the "perceived quality" of a nice cabin and touchy feely bits and the fact they are a Euro badge. Remember they are a middle of the road brand in the UK/Europe, like Vauxhall or Ford or Peugeot or Citroen, not a premium brand. Don't get sucked in by the Euro = premium trick!

A friend of mine has a Jetta TDi - won't buy another VW ever again because of the problems they've had with it.

Skoda scored better than VW in last year's UK JD Power survey, however bear in mind that isn't just based on reliability, it also factors in how well you are treated by the dealer when something goes wrong.

However, if you look at the JD Power USA dependability study you'll find VW with 165 problems per hundred vehicles, which is below average:
http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2015-vehicle...

If I was buying a wagon with my own money I'd be looking at a Mazda 6 or an SV6 Commodore (or an SS if I had a nice short commute).

Mental. In one year it will be worth $65k.

$25k loss - you could buy a minty E46 M3 for $30k...

Agreed. I was with a friend looking at a BMW dealer recently, I couldn't believe the prices of the admittedly lovely and well spec'd but not that special cars in the showroom, and shuddering at the losses.
