Daily Dreaming - what are you looking at?
Discussion
Well last night I went with a mate to a Porsche club meet. Few GT4s and a nice new 911 Turbo on display.
So he's bugging me to sell the GTS and get a Cayman.
I then bumped into an old neighbor who is selling some of his collection (he currently has 5 911s), a '68 and a '77.
So I went home and the GF said to me "Sell your HSV, and a few of your watches, get a small loan and get a Porsche".
I told her it was a silly idea, and she replied with "but it's a Porsche".
Hmm .. off to the classifieds.

Listen to the girlfriend, she sounds sensible
It's not clear to me if you're saying you're considering one of your old neighbour's old Porsches or a Cayman?

Heart would prefer a 'classic', but brain knows the performance hikes of a 'modern' are huge.
I recon a classic 911 is about the same size as a Cayman too.
I think I'm a year or two away from it though. Have to see how the finances go.

A well sorted Porsche (911 in my experience) is a thing of loveliness.
Question is which one? Also be careful to avoid the chocolate engine generation!

Classic 911 would be an investment. Cayman wouldn't.
Very true. I'd imagine the GT4s would hold their value long term though.Pommygranite said:
Do it! Don't let brand perception get in the way of a good drive.

I'd be thinking of 70/80's. Not at all quick (compared) but that doesn't bother me. I'd also imagine that the old air cooled variety are actually easier to track and maintain, with less to go wrong.A well sorted Porsche (911 in my experience) is a thing of loveliness.

Doesn't need to be a daily drive at all, so I could get back into a manual and re-learn my heel and toe technique.

No idea what the price should be, but that seems cheap. But then so to the Gransports. Why are Mazzers so much cheaper than similar cars?

I left 20 minutes later vowing not to get a Grabsport
Bankruptcy potential withy things like $15k actuators going, potential breakages and as expected the running costs.
Actual services not too bad but but the ad hoc costs and a clutch every 20-25k kms at $5-7500 scared me.

I popped in to Tutti Motors at Wangaratta (Italian exotic service specialists) to have a serious chat about what to prep for and expect to pay on a Gransport.
Good to know .. I'll cross them off my list.Shame, as the ingredients look right.
Ferrari V8, 400hp, paddles, 4(ish) seats, Italian design.
Just had to replace all the suspension on the GTS, so I'll be enjoying that for a while first I think.

I think if you averaged $5k a year you'd be right with an every 3yr $10k bill.
Ohh nasty on the GTS - how much?
I just got a friendly $2k bill on the 5 series and trying to work out what I can ignore

Was getting a klunk from the suspension. So took it to an independent, 2 new shocks, droplinks, and a load of bushes needed.I just got a friendly $2k bill on the 5 series and trying to work out what I can ignore
The bushes, droplinks etc were about $500.
The suspension is about $1500 a shock.
I got some low mileage second hand off gumtree instead.
Apparently the Ferrari 599 Fiorano has the same shocks, but they are $16,000.
But it's been a ballache with Holden getting wrong parts (two left hand sides for example) and certain parts being a 'only got stock over east' thing.
Just what i needed when I'm off to Europe next month.
What's the issues with the zim zimmer?

It needs:
- New PCV and pipes (crankshaft ventilation unit) - $750
- Radiator top hose - $300 and the Water Pump will need reviewing too.
- 4 x tyres $1000
- news disks before long
If everything was done that's $3k on a $7k car... Hmm.
A New Car is getting tempting. Current dreaming is a Lexus RC350 or at a stretch an M2. Well see at the end of this year.

Thoughts on this?
So thought about it and ordered it.
Delivery April - July 2017. Hopefully.
Lovely. Would be a tough call for me personally between an RS and this. Is that the colour you've chosen? Surprised by the huge wait list though....So thought about it and ordered it.

Yeah chose black on black. Like silver and blue but ultimately was Black was the nice safe option.
Apparently it's getting longer list wise...
