Does anyone on here go off roading? Got my pickup (ute!) just wondering where I can go to get it muddy?
Not sure on what the rules are here with it can I just turn off the road and into the bush? My navara is standard just now so might be a good idea to go with someone incase I get stuck!

In general get away from the main metropolitan areas and you will be flooded with off roading opportunities.

First thing to say is that there are thousands of Kms of unpaved roads, many of which are 4WD only. Buy a map at your local servo of your local 4WD only roads.

In WA I drove a 70Km long 4WD only road which I thought would take me a couple of hours or so - 10 hours later I got back to the campsite!!

Oz has a completely different attitude to four wheel drives and the parks I've been to encourage it. After green laning and pay and play site off roading in the UK the Australian attitude to enjoying your 4WD was a revelation.

On a cautious note bear in mind that Oz is very sparsely populated - if you get stuck and haven't told some one where you were going you may be there a while so make sure you carry water, food, fuel, self recovery gear and basic repair tools and spares if you travel on your own to remote areas.

I've done some relatively extreme off roading lately in my standard Series 1 Discovery, other than A/T tyres, and had a great time, obviously the dry climate helps!I travelled from Perth to Dubbo in our 110 Defender across some brilliant unpaved roads(the Great Central Road was easily the best.

Hope I've made some sense - start of the long weegend so enjoying the home brew a bit!!

Yeah I recon my British mindset towards offroading isn't helping here!
Ended up Jurien Bay last weekend had a little play about in the sandy tracks, found it on this site it seems to have plenty info: http://www.4-wheeling-in-western-australia.com

Need to get myself a compressor and things as its just me going out just now!

A mate and I did this a few weeks back for the first time.

Just jumped in the Disco and went for it really. No gear, No idea.

Probably going to invest in a handwinch though as we were almost stuck a few times.

Was a great laugh though. Definitely doing it again.
