So now it looks like you'll be able to import cars under 12 months old (and 4,000km).

What would be a good choice? A GTR from the UK would have been better 12 months ago with the exchange rate.

I'd love to buy a GTR but get put off at the Australian prices. In fact prices of everything put me off LOL

I hope something positive comes of the changes.

Err, it isn't through Cabinet yet, and it won't get through the Senate.

So I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

I would welcome a change to remove the whole "it is Aus spec so costs more" excuse that Merc, BMW etc trot out whenever they are challenged on their pricing, which means removal of ADRs and alignment with ECE regs - that would really put the pressure on the imported brands.

if you get your BMW vin number and put it into the online things, it will tell you the build sheet for the car.

there is one maybe 2 lines in there that are relevant

- radio
- oceana spec (or something like that)
- hot climate spec (which means de-rate towing capacity spec in owners manual as cooling system cant cope)

everything else i have seen listed on the UK cars.

ADR was harmonised with UNECE regs a few years back, no doubt because it was obvious that local manufacture was no longer viable and would need to be replaced.

Were they? I thought top tethers for childseats were ADR unique for example?
