Solahart water heating - Any good?

Hopefully the mods wont pick this up and move it to the homes sub-forum where our friends in England wont be able to offer any advice at all!

We're about to move to a house that has a Solahart water heater on the roof - Its one of those older looking things with a panel and a big cylindrical thing. Do these things keep working well even after 10+ years? It seems like a useful thing to have but not if its going to cause us problems.

They usually plod along till a pipe splits and then dumps a large amount of water into your loft (happened to my parents after a storm). They are not anything fancy technology wise, so as long as they are not covered in moss, they'll not be an issue.

Perhaps you should pitch a tent over the bed.

Those are about the only really useful solar technology yet invented. However like many things, they should be replaced pretty soon after becoming a teenager. 15 years is about their usual life, but I know of one still working happily at over 20.
