We have a very unfortunate situation at home whereby our 10yr old Labrador cross really doesn't like our 1 yr old daughter frown

For 9 years he's been our "baby" and now we have a real baby he's feeling left out. This despite us making an effort to do more with him and include him in more than ever before. A couple of months ago he growled at our daughter in a way the "dog people" would know isn't very friendly, he was OK after that but yesterday did it twice more.

He used to be really happy all the time but now spends most of his day sulking in the garden with his back to the house.

Rather than leaving it until it's too late, we have decided that finding a new home for him would be a better option that permanently separating them on our property or putting him down. However, we are aware that at 10yrs old he's unlikely to find a new home.

Prior to the arrival of our daughter he has always been really good with children. We have 7 nieces and nephews between as and he always used to let them pull on him, play with him and do what ever they wanted - The problem seems to be that he resents the attention that our own child gets.

Its a bit of a tricky situation and any advice would be greatly received.

Have you thought about trying to get a professional in to give some advise? I don't usually put much faith in these sorts of things, but watching what the old fella Harry is able to do with pets, it has to be worth a try. I can't imagine a situation where the dog going is going to be nice.

We found a lovely couple who were looking for an older dog. They picked him up on Saturday and he took to them really well. Tears all round and its been an emotional few days but the dog is happy and thats what we wanted.
