Still here, been busy at work. What a surprise! everyone wants to go overseas! The World didn't see that coming??
I reckon the international stuff is about 85-90% back to pre-covid.

Cars? Oh dear I bought something else. Do I have enough space? No! Had to put two in the garage to keep the Insurance company happy.
I was supposed to be out car hunting with a friend of mine and for some reason I ended up with a new car, first non-Holden in 23 years. One of those stupid impulse buys. It is a ridiculous vehicle in all contexts. Fast and completely silly, just makes me laugh when I drive it.
Practical, kind of, it can carry 2 adults and 2 smaller people with some luggage. I call it the "Wombat R"
Yep, it is a VW so I'm ready for the servicing! It is a T-ROC R. Golf R was way too much $$$. I will find some pictures of it later.

Hurry up, mine are getting lonely!
Prices seem to have stopped going up. Speaking to some dealers in the past few days, people have stopped buying them. The VF2 Calais's seem to be about $10k less. Have seen some nice Redlines in the yards in the past few months but then others, not worth bothering with.

Some changes in the car line up for us, wifey got a new Suzuki Swift Sport and I just chopped the Passat Alltrack in for a new VW Arteon R-Line shooting Brake, it’s a MY22 model but got it for circa $15k off normal OTR cost.

That must be quite rare down here. They are a good looking car.

They're good looking things in wagon mode, good buy. And 15k off is cracking. Did you have to negotiate hard for that or were they trying to get rid off it?

Oh nice, whats it like? Seems like good value for a brand new Golf R equivalent?

Thanks and yeah, but of a blast and been adding a few things to it but mostly on road additions rather than off-road. Reckon it cost about $5k to build hehe

Still in Perth, now working in mining via a 2 year stint at the Police.

Still have the Boxster and C class. Almost 4 yours into a house build, and still going.

Looking at picking up an older Cayenne or a newer Macan once the house is sorted. Relegating the C class to a beater.

Would prefer a Taycan, but prices seem static.

Brother-in-law finally got here this month, after a 4 year visa wait.
Long time no chat, glad all is ok. Sorry about the house build!

I was actually looking at a Passat for a friend of mine at this particular dealership. We had been to see some Hyundai N/N line sedans and Sonata N-lines plus Stingers. The VW showroom looked shut so being anti-social I went and wandered around their yard whilst he chatted to the salesman. Saw there were some T-Rocs in captivity, rare out at the one near me at the time. Looked round the back of one and realised it was an R. Cool looking little things.
I used to like the Mitsubishi RVR Hyper Sports Gear imports when they were around. A friend always saw me looking at the Mitsubishis at work and saying "Buy it, Buy it." And I would just laugh. As I went back to look at the T-Roc I realised they were open and I knew I was probably in trouble.
"Just take it for a test drive" said the salesman. I didn't even know what the options were at the time. (Options were Sunroof and Stereo.) Both of which I didn't mind if it didn't have. I hadn't done all my research. Salesman told me what he had coming in the next 6 months, the ones there, were only a week or 2 old."A Grey one next month with no extras and a Blue one with everything, a Black one with everything. A black one with Stereo no sunroof. a silver one with everything" I liked the blue but the black is cool to. When he mentioned Black no sunroof but has the stereo I asked when that one was due. I didn't want one that hadn't been built. He said it was due at the end of October (2022) I said "Is it on a ship?", "yes" he replied. "Can you show me the name of the ship it is on?" I looked up the name on my app on the phone and saw the ship was docking in South Africa so I knew it was 4 to 6 weeks away. By then it was all over!

Anyway here are a few pictures of it.

It is very quick, maybe the quickest in the fleet, or it is certainly easy to go quick. One thing it is missing is a head up display so you know how quick you are going! Yes, I received my first speeding fine in 9 years, 57 in a 50, Thanks Park Street. Parkville.
I haven't driven a Golf R 7 or 7.5, I had sat in a 7 a long time ago so I knew I fit inside a Golf. Tried the T-Roc and it is similar obviously, which was a big selling point as a lot of current cars lack headroom for me. My folks prefer the higher ground clearance to get into over the Commodores. It isn't roomy in the back, ok for short trips or "little people".
The ride is hard! The Commodores ride the bumps better, the T-Roc handles better.
I was a bit perplexed that they loaded it with loads of safety stuff and gizmos and left the head up display out it. eg, I switch off the stop start and lane keeping every time I get in it. I think I can get a program to change the defaults. I also haven't tried R mode or launch control yet. It launches well enough in sport mode for me! At the time it was $15k less than a Golf 8 R. There is a R Grid version out now which is another $8-10k cheaper I think.
The slidey buttons (gesture), yeah, they take getting used to. Believe they are removing them from ones in the future. I also gave it an oil change myself after 6 months as the service intervals are 12 months, which is silly. The fuel, way better than my V8s, which is nice but that won't stop me from driving the others.

Nice, they look a bit cooler than the Passat Wagons.

Good write up and just what is was hoping you'd write. I've looked at these and I can't work out if I'd end up loving the engine so much the mini SUV element doesn't matter, or if the mini SUV element diminishes the enjoyment of speed.

Wonder if when it's 2-3 yrs old it'll be an absolutely $35k bargain.

No, think they were keen to move as they have had it for a while. Even got them to tint the fronts for free also.

Going to take it out for its first proper drive today as I’ve been tied up with work all week.

At 4.9s to 100 it certainly is quick!

I had no idea they were that fast.

I went and checked out the carwow video - 4.2 0-100. Crikey.

I'm still here, look in occasionally but rarely post.
My new vehicle is a new Transit for the business lol... sold my cars and recently my CBR600RR, no time for toys unfortunately!

Bought a house last Christmas in Amberton Beach (South Yanchep!)

Remember when we had semi regular Perth PH meetups? Many years ago frown

I remember meeting a few of you guys not long after I first moved here! That was down in Northbridge. Seems like so long ago!

Start planning somewhere to live well in advance. There is a critical shortage of homes to buy and rent here at the moment. Maybe it will be slightly better in a year, but probably wont.
