I'm going to the Melbourne Cup! And I'm pretty excited about it!

Its my first time - has anyone on PH been? Any advice to offer - particularly on where is best to watch from (Banks? Undercroft? The Lawn)? Is there a dress code - we're going on Cup day?

Thanks for help.

been several times - great day out although Oaks day (Lady's Day or "Blokes day" as it's known among my mates) on the Thursday after Melb Cup is always better IMO. Both days will have 100,000+ people if the weather is good and wear anything you like in the public areas. Some "members" areas will have dress codes, usually fellas in a bag of fruit & the fillies well frocked up with hats etc. All the areas are packed so wander around but get there early & start with a few bevvies & picnic in the car park. Overall it's like Royal Ascot without the pretention and half the price and much more chilled vibe. If you have a choice of days that week to go to Flemington, check out the weather forecast few days before & choose best of the Sunday (Derby Day) Tues (Cup Day) and Thurs (Oaks Day).

its a good day out, its just an excuse for a lardy piss up, if you have any class then leave it at home. There will be sheilas legs akimbo in the car park, shitfaced by 11:00am on champers and chicken breakfasts. What cracks me up is its a national holiday here in Melbourne, for a horse race FFS!
