Okay so the ball is rolling.

Tim the pool man Bathurst winner gave me a call earlier (just moved house and no net) and is also up for a curry night.

My own personal favourite curry spot is Cinnamon on the park in East Vic Park. Its almost directly opposite to the Balmoral pub which has couches, pool tables and a fine selection of local beers to start or wash it down with.

As ever guys chip in with your own thoughts and reccomendations.

I'm told that a few groups of people in the UK have made themselves a monthly 'curry club'...We should get something like that going!!

My other half will be coming along.

Defo up for this, shame about this Saturday, maybe Tim could bring her along?

Were easy on the date, have baby sitter in the form of grandad stopping with sister in law until 1st week in March. If we could do this before then, it would be good.

Saturday is probably out for me as the inlaws have just arrived from the UK.
They're here for a month though so they probably won't mind if I'm out for one Saturday out of four.
I'll keep you posted.

Saturday 21st is a go. Works out better for me anyway and gives more chance for other people to see the thread.

I'm assuming everyone is happy enough with Cinnamon and Balmoral for beers? Please feel free to suggest anywhere else!!

Is there an Indian in Freo or Subiaco? Hmm Freo could work for people who want to go on to other places.

Yeah Mr & Mrs V too, 21st is good also.

I'm enquiring at work here for any recommendable venues in the Freo area.
I'm thinking that most of us that are up for this might prefer Freo/Perth from a logistical point of view.

Dev, perhaps we can use your nominated venue as the fall back?

Absolutely fine with me. Freo is a bit closer to my end anyway and like I say there are a sheet load of bars and clubs if things turn messy later on biggrin

There are a fair few Indians in Freo...Dont recall ever going to any of them though!

Right, just in:

Local Sources said:
Don't usually go to Freo for a ruby!

The best ones I've been to are

Cinnamon Club - Leaderville (but it has recently changed hands)

Maharajah (Nedlands) - great food but much atmosphere

Agni - Innaloo (very busy)

Two Fat Indians - Highgate

The Royal India on Hay St has good food as does 7 Mary's but both are pricey!

Only places I normally go in Freo are Little Creatures, Sail & Anchor or Sala Thai - all recommended!

I used to regularly frequent the Maharajah... but that was in Moscow! hehe

So if one of us is familiar with or has a preference: pick one please.

I think the Cinnamon one has already been mentioned, so that one?

Leederville is easy enough to get to for most I would think. Not sure what the area is like for other entertainment. The Cinnamon Club is / was owned by the same people that own Cinnamon on the park in Vic Park.

Nedlands is near Leederville. No atmosphere at the restaurant...reads like its one of those places you go to and the staff are sitting around bored and the place is empty?

Highgate is not far from Northbridge so is good for train and CAT bus if people dont want to drive. Northbridge is also good if your looking for some biff with drunk backpackers and 18 years olds tongue out

Innaloo = 16 hour drive tongue out

I'm pretty sure there is an Indian in Subiaco called Chutney Mary's. Mount Lawley has some good restaurants...not sure if there is an Indian.

Freo is the best are for atmosphere and the monumental amount of beer that is available. Last time I was there a powder blue Lambo Gallardo was cruising around the centre making a lot of noise thumbup

Chutney Mary's is in Subiaco, and is next door to Little Chutneys, I've been to the later and it's very good. They are both owned by the same person, and I beleive, share the same kitchen. Interiors are differnt, one traditional ( Chutney Mary's), the other contempary.

Royal Indian in west Perth is very nice, your typical indian from the uk, but it's large and pricey, but the food I had was very good.

People in the office have recommended the Maya in Freo.

After a bit of tinternet searchingtype, Banyan Tree in Inglewood gets the best review scoring 9.4 out of 10. But as theres only one review, I am slightly warey it's the owners review, but maybe not.

Freo sounds good to me, a couple of pints beer at little creatures, then onto Maya for a ruby, then for those who want to carry on, there's loads of places to drink the night away drunk

Anyway, have a look and I'm open to suggestions linky here

scratchchin That Banyan review does read like something from the owner....

I reckon little creatures for beer folowed by mad monk for beer followed by the sail and anchor for beer then on to Maya for a ruby of monumental heat followed a few hours later by a slight intestinal hurry on a southerly bearing.

Actually those pubs all brew their own beer, not sure how many beers little creatures does now but the sail and anchor does 4 or 5 and mad monk does about 10....Who's going to hold my hair for me?!?!

Talking of the sail and anchor right next door is 'Old Shanghai' which is basically a food court with all sorts of asian food on offer. If all else fails we can head there and people can get what they want. Its hardly glamorous but its always packed. The curries are not the best in Perth but they are cheap! http://www.oldshanghai.com.au/index.htm
