Pls forgive the relatively uninformed subject matter.
Looking for a second car for track work that might also do some fun weekend road use now and again.
Interested in any thoughts.
One specific qn - checking out YouTube clips, the s/c engine sounds incredibly harsh when extended. Maybe the noise doesn't record and play back that well - is it so bad in reality, does it detract from the experience??

Go and test drive one!
The s/c whine is addictive and does nothing but add to the aural fun.
A decent airbox and exhaust adds the cherry on top.
The cost sod all to run and track and depreciation is very slow.
No brainer really...

I can't add anything to how an Exige drives but I can on the noise.

I had a couple of run outs to Wales in the summer joined by a friend in an Exige sprint. The car was fitted with a large single exit pipe made by Jim Valentine of 2bular. It sounded fantastic, loud and fantastic with a nice crack/pop on high in the rev-range gear changes.

As other have said, try one.

I had my 2bular fitted this year and it sounds fantastic however.......

It completely drowns out the SC whine (to the point where I barely hear it) which I miss hugely. If you consider a sports exhaust you must consider the knock on effect of cabin noise. To this day I'm still not sure if I'd have been better off leaving it standard. This is not a criticism of the exhaust, it was a work of art and half the weight of the original.

Depends how small your silencer is smile
I find the opposite to you (8" 2bular and a TRD airbox) - the TRD overcomes the noise of the exhaust at high rpm.

Mine's a 7'' so it looks like that extra inch does make a difference after all!

To be honest I love to popping of unburnt fuel on the over run and this gave me that so it does have perks other than just the exhaust note. I was going to go down the TRD route but have now decided not to bother. I've heard it offers very little advantage in both performance and noise (unless you can tell me otherwise). The best mod I ever made was getting rid of the launch control valve and installing a lightweight flywheel and uprated clutch. Pickup is noticeable better and no clutch slip at high RPM gear changes.

Trd improves induction noise and SC whine.

It's the only car which has made me laugh out loud the first time I drove one. Supercharger whine is mental and the engine thrives on revs - I don't find mine harsh at all.

Where are you based?

The noise is truly amazing, especially with the SC and doesn't drone too badly on long journeys (I have a 2bular section). I'll be doing a long drive around Scotland in the Summer and I'm not worried at all about noise.

@TheTalentedMr

I thought the same when I put my 2ubular onto my Elise SC - it completely drowned out the supercharger whine. I added a TRD airbox which completely sorted this problem out. Now I get supercharger whine (which I love) and a great exhaust note.

Whilst on the subject of noise does anyone know what these cars read on a static 3/4 revs test?

I am interested in maybe getting one of these in the next year but a pre-requisite will be to pass the 90 dB noise test to get out at my local track Thruxton.

Cheers
Neil

Won't be an issue with normal exhaust

I don't know about static but on drive by I was 96.6 yesterday at Blyton, I was politely asked not to use 2nd gear biggrin

Edit: Here's an on board for you to hear the noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h059JWv3wqk

I have a hurricane induction on my '14 Elise S and the supercharger noise is even better than with the TRD plus I feel the car is much more happy/free in the high RPM but it lost smoothness when cold or at the lower rpm range.
