Just idle curiosity. What happened to it?

A few weeks ago I was going through my old childhood brochure/magazine collection and found a road test on this car from the summer of 1981.

As ten year olds, me and by best mate loved this car and would often talk about it.

I can't find any trace of it being alive these days.

I guess it was a press car as googling shows a lot of images of Esprits on OPW***W plates.

So what happened to it?

Looks like it ceased to exist in the early 80s its tax was due in November 1982 according to DVLA.
