Nearly finished restoring my 76 MGB GT I bought it after the previous owner had done all the bodywork and new carpets and trim but the paint job was poor. I ran it for a bit as it was and soon after it started smoking the engine was passed its sell by date but I bought it cheap and wasn't too surprised. I contemplated an engine rebuild when I saw an advert on here in the MG parts for a brand new 1977 MGB engine which I ended up getting for £550. It came on a crate still in wax paper in the original box.

I took the head off and sent to get it adapted for unleaded fuel the engine had never been run on a bench by the looks of things.

I painted the engine red then bought a Weber 45 DCOE a fast road Kent cam with Aldon distributor and a Peco Sports wide bore manifold/exhaust system

Once installed it fired up and runs brill. The carb makes it a little sluggish below 2500 revs but it then picks its feet up and is very smooth and free revving. Once I have run it in I will get it on a rolling road but I am really surprised how tractable it is I was expecting far worse at low revs. I then had the car fully repainted.

I have put in new biscuit leather seats to match the new carpets and door trims plus I bought some spare red vinyl to trim the dash A posts and door tops etc.

I have fitted a heated front screen from Moss and put a carbon panel in where the fascia vents are as this part of the dash was damaged. A walnut dash and a Pioneer Sat Nav 4 speaker system with amp and CD changer under the seats with electric aerial.

I bought some new wheels and tyres to finish it off and thought that was it.

I then decided to buy the chrome bumper conversion with new front and rear lower panels which turned out a harder job than I expected. I bought lower front and rear springs plus new poly bushes to help it look better and as the original chrome bumper models were.

A couple of other bits to do but the hard work is done.

Not sure about the wheels- look a bit like trainers on a grandpa to me- but otherwise stunning! Love the interior.

wheels are excellent (see my profile)

interior is not to my taste but it's not my car it's yours and if you like that's all that matters

I can thoroughly recommend Peter Burgess for rolling raod set up, excellent value too - http://www.mgcars.org.uk/peterburgess/

I've also used another highly recommend RR tuner and Peter was so much better - and much, much, much and one last much, better value

good idea to have the whole car settled and fully serviced and maintained before putting it on the rollers

avoid expectations of ego stroking figures the idea is to get the best out of the cars potential

Here's another vote for Peter Burgess.

I actually drove all the way from Belgium to his place to have him set up my car after a bad experience with a so-called 'expert'.
And before that, I had him modify the cylinder heads of two 4-cylinder MGBs and the cylinder heads of the MGB GT V8...
