I would love to keep it Charles, and would if I had the funds to buy something else as well. Like the Mexico which I'll really miss once it's gone, I still regret selling my old TVR Tuscan convertible but love the Aston Martin Vantage that replaced it. The 'master plan' is to sell both the Aston and the Maserati to buy one modern sports car, and get my 'classic' fix from my TVR 3000m restoration project. It's just a shame I only have a 2 car garage... So you let that dry and then what, get the 1200 grit out wrapped round a block and sand until all the nibs are gone - or 2400 - or 800?
And then you clean the dust off and build this up coat by coat ... how do you polish for a shine - DA? By hand? Do you use a rubbing compound suitable for wood?
I suppose it's like cutting back paint and lacquer, but on wood, not metal ... ?
I'll add that I have NO wood in my car, but am always interested to know how these things are done!

I'm going to use 800 grit paper at this stage to clear off the undulations, then carry on building up the film thickness. I've used Rustins Plastic Coating for the lacquer so will be using their burnishing cream to get the final finish http://www.rustins.eu/Details.asp?ProductID=347. Again after flatting and keying with ever-finer grit paper between coats. And then you clean the dust off and build this up coat by coat ... how do you polish for a shine - DA? By hand? It's going to need more patience than woodworking skill but already the wood is looking much better than before I started.
