That Maserati V8 makes it one of the best sounding cars too!

Any video of it running? I really like the rocker covers, it's little touches like that which make a car that little bit extra special, this and a Daimler dart, 2 gorgeous cars that you never see.

Realistically, it's still about a month off starting. Then it's fingers crosed and fire extinguisher at the ready wink

Connected some brass choke wires today and fitted a new choke cable. A frustrating lack of time available so progress has reverted to a snail's pace.....

I made a small but significant step forward last night on the Mexico, I connected the battery up for the first time and no flames, fires, or melting wiring that I could see.

The electric aerial rising up was a little startling as it wasn't working when I bought the car (although I'm not sure it should go up without the radio being connected!) and switching on the ignition had the fuel pumps operating correctly, first one, then the other when switched over. Some of the lights worked including the door warning lights, the side lights and dipped headlights but there was no main-beam and only one number plate light.

Electric windows wouldn't work and neither would the indicators or horns. Great joy was the under-bonnet light which did work which again never did before!

Much checking on the wiring needed, one fuel tank still to install, and then I may see what happens with one more turn on the ignition key......

How on earth did you resist that extra turn this time?

Obviously, being Italian, what didn't work today will be working tomorrow and what was working, won't be. biggrin

Enjoying this thread. Like others have said, I never knew about this car but it's beautiful.

It was very tempting, but it's just not ready (or maybe I'm not ready!). I may whip out the spark plugs and see if it will spin over on the starter!

The Surveyor should have said:
It was too tempting, so plugs out, it turned over fine, made a rudimentary fuel hopper on top to feed the carbs, started it up and then , overcome with emotion on old fashioned fumes, welled up with pride...

Paul
Just saying... paperbag

laughWell it sounds like a good plan, I got the plugs out and turned the key that final click....... And...... Well it turned over on the starter. It didn't spin, just a nice steady turn until the battery started to die. I think on that performance I may need to go shopping for a new battery!

Oh and the indicators work as do the reversing lights thumbup

Today I got the brake lights working on the Mexico, a significant step forward as it means that the brakes are now finished, full of fluid, and working. They took an age to bleed and the pedal is still spongy so there is still some air in there somewhere. I'll let it settle and pump some more fluid through in a day or two, check for leaks and see if the pedal pressure comes up.

The handbrake also works a treat now too. The new pads and cable fitting perfectly.

Exhaust still to be fitted then I'll be dropping it off its axle stands for the first time in ages.

Small steps....

Good work mate - looking forward too seeing the car when we get back (oh, and you & mrs surveyor too of course!) - seeing it back on its wheels again will be a special moment. As will firing the beast up too...not long now!!!

Cheers Pete. I'm going to need a trip to AAS as I'm two short sections of exhaust missing before I'm able to drop it off the stands once and for all..... Bugger!

Hope the holidays going well and see you when you're home.

Such a pretty car, with a easy elegance missing in today's brash equivalents - that is if there truly are any.

Productive day, re-bled the brakes giving a much better peddle pressure. Dropped the car off the axle stands putting the car back on its wheels for the first time in ages. Finished tightening up the suspension and anti roll bar and started fitting the front bumper which didn't...... Still, it does look rather handsome in the sunshine smile
