Refurbishment of my Maserati Mexico

I read somewhere that there are (or were) only six RHD Mexicos built, which market they landed in though I'm not sure.
Beautiful car OP, just beautiful
Thanks, Beautiful car OP, just beautiful
There are 7 RHD Mexico's listed on the Mexico Registry, of which 2 are thought to be later conversions. Makes them a very rare indeed. Mine is also one of 11 listed as being last known in the UK and of those I'm not sure how many are being used. I like the fact mines a LHD car as it gives me further justification to take it over to the continent once it's ready
Hello Surveyor...
Just found your forum thread.. Will be going through it in much closer detail when
I have some time. I have being working on my Ghibli SS, but that's another story!
Just wanted to introduce myself as the owner of Mexico 112.074. Have owned her since
1998. She is one of my favorite Masers! She has some needs, but still enjoy her
so much! I have enclosed a picture from 2005 when the car was allowed into the Cavallino
event in FL.
Hope you will continue letting us know of your progress!
Mike
Yours looks lovely Mike
Have you had much work done on her, or has it always looks so nice?
Mine has hit the buffers again whilst I wait for the final sections of carpet to be made, which will finally allow me to get the interior fitted. I've been twiddling my thumbs doing little jobs whilst I while I'm waiting but the last 3 months of little-progress has been killing me.
Sadly at this rate it'll certainly not be ready for Le Mans this summer
I just can't wait to get it finished and usable so I can start to enjoy it.

Thank you for the compliment Surveyor!! She has always looked pretty good, especially
from 20 feet, but not so good very close up! She could use a paint job! Plus there are
some other needs.
Your car will be spectacular! I am looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Also, if you don't mind, I would like to ask you some questions. Would that be ok?
I have attached a picture of 074 parked behind my house, next to my Khamsin.. Not
the best picture, but is more recent, about 5 months ago! She always looks good
from a distance, but don't get to close! I have a picture of the interior somewhere.
When I find it, I will post it here!
Mike
Now here's a lovely one in the US ...

That's a beautiful example and somebody has clearly spend a huge amount of time and money getting it to look like that. Nice set of record photographs to help with the final carpets on mine too.The pics are pretty big with good detail and may help in some way ...

Ignoring the air filter which isn't connected, it looks pretty much perfect

My dad used to run a maserati mexico as a daily driver in France in the 1970s.
He loved to drive it across France at 200-220kmh all the time where the car was very stable.
He once maxxed it to 260kmh and said the car felt like taking off!
He was a 747 captain, so prob an enjoyable experience for him.
What he did not like were the hefty monthly bills going with car..
I read this thread with interest and would happily buy a nice mexico... If i could find one!

Hi Paul...
Your Mexico is looking fantastic!!! Excellent work!!! I am looking forward to hearing how she does on the road!
I will be posting some questions for you soon, specifically regarding the headlights.. My low-beams work, but my high-beams do not!
Mike
Headlights are a strange one Mike. I spent many hours (with help) chasing wires and checking switches, there are two relays in the system and the fault on mine ended up being due to one of the terminals in the indicator switch stalk which wasn't allowing the low-beam relay to switch off. If you send me an email message via my Pistonheads profile, I can send you a correct headlight wiring diagram fully coloured up with the correct wire colours including the relays. I've also got a coloured-up diagram of each dashboard switch including original 'Lucas' references so you can check you have the correct switches and that they are correctly wired. My lights now work correctly although the switching sequence is strange, but apparently right! Your Mexico is looking fantastic!!! Excellent work!!! The wipers are the next problem as they work but don't 'park'. I've checked the 'park' switch in the wiper motor and that is working fine and I'm now checking the earths and the dashboard switch / foot pump switch. Oh and my drivers door electric window has just stopped working too
I've taken the plunge and booked mine in for some professional tuning and at MOT test in 3 weeks time, that will allow me to get it UK registered and then hopefully, drive it despite still not having the last sections of carpet

Thanks for this post - it has been a fantastic read. That last bit must give you a bit of a buzz - getting to finally drive such a fabulous car after all that work!
Top job!
Great post. Love it when someone puts time, energy, blood sweat and tears into something and it comes out looking that good.
Just wondering if the park on your Mexico is the same as in the Jensens. To park, the actual wiper motor supply is reverse polarised (so runs in reverse) until it hits the park switch.
The Jensen is a Lucas system so yours is unlikely to be the same make/model etc. being Italian, but it might use the same theory of operation?
Anyway..congrats on a stunning car. Now get out and enjoy it
