I find it odd that anyone paid the not inconsiderable premium for the era, for a Lotus and then want to pay out even more to have a boat anchor put in the place of the Twink...... instead of just buying a 2-dr GT and binning the X-Flow for the Essex.
Madness
Or the Lotus engine failed, & the V6 was seen as cheaper, easier & potentially more reliable?Madness

However, as most conversions were done on 'secondhand' cars (ie owner bought the car and took it straight to Crayford) to save car tax on the conversion, and as they converted 20 MK2 Cortina Lotus convertibles it's perfectly feasible that an owner had a Lotus converted to V6.

It also indicates a 3.9 (ie. 1600GT) diff, whereas AFAIK the Lotus was 3.77.
I'd like a very close look at that before shelling out €75,000, though as it's been 'restored', what it started out as 50-years ago is a moot point.

This gets interesting: as far as I can tell (from various sources) the chassis plate in the photo decodes as a Jan '70 Dagenham 2-door Cortina Lotus shell, 1600GT engine (not Lotus twincam), Silver Fox colour.

You are correct concerning diff ratio's alright It also indicates a 3.9 (ie. 1600GT) diff, whereas AFAIK the Lotus was 3.77.

Seems daft to me this car.
The whole point of a Lotus Cortina, is that you have a Cortina with the main ingredient being a Lotus engine and not some big ole heavy lump, that will ruin the handling a bit.
Now if this was a Lotus Cortina mk2 Crayford convertible (of which they did a few), that would be a nice motor. But still not 75k nice.
