Mk2 Cortina Savage
Discussion
Reference the Cortina Savage Mk11 1600e based, now owned by Legacywr since October 2012. I was the owner of OUA411F from 1980 to 1982. When I owned it, it was still just as it had been when it left Jeff Urens workshop. It was still painted in its original Ford Silver Fox metallic paint with its original black vinyl roof. It had not done many miles and was still perfect apart from the paint which was renowned for fading in that colour. I had it completely resprayed again in Silver Fox but with 3 coats of clear to protect it and eliminate further fading. As you will see in my photos it was gleaming! I had a custom made radiator fitted and I had 7.5inch wide Alleycat alloys with wide tyres fitted. I also had a custom made exhaust fitted which sounded awesome! At the time it was a really quick car and I had loads of fun humbling the so -called fast cars of the day. The only weak link on it was the 2000e gearbox which was not man enough to take the power of the essex v6. I managed to munch 2 of them!! At the same time as owning the Savage I also had a genuine MK11 Lotus Cortina. It was a fast car as well as I put the big valve lotus elan engine in it plus electonic ignition which had just come out then. The difference though between them was the Savage had fiercer acceleration and loads more torque. I added the spotlights to the Savage as they did not come as standard. I went back to Australa in 1982 and sadly sold both cars. I moved back to Southampton in 1986 and in 1987 guess what, I saw an advert in the Echo for a Cortina Savage, and yes it was my old car! However when I went to look at it I was gutted at how it had been basicly wrecked! I could not beleive the state it was in and so walked away from it. I guess it was like that in some of the old photos you have. The thing is when you have owned an immaculate condition car and then you see it again as a wreck it does gut you. The guy who has done it up again has done a good job but in my opinion it will never match how it was when I owned it. I would love to hear from the present owner and maybe see my old car again.
Wow, fantastic post greeny1
I guess you may have bought the car from a dealer on Shirley Road, as I see the car had already lost its original Savage badges, which were pinched while the car was at said dealer. I also assume that when you saw the car for sale in 1987 it was in Thornbury Ave when it belonged to a friend of mines ex husband?!
The photos I have of it as wreck were taken when it resided at the first house past the petrol station on the west bound A31 at Minstead/Stoney Cross.
I would like to put some wide alloys on it now too.. and you're welcome to see it anytime!

Hi legacywr ,glad you like the post . When I bought the Savage it was from a guy in Bishop Stortford north east of london. As far as I am aware the badging on it was period correct. This is the first time the car came to Southampton. Yes when I saw it again it was in Shirley. I would like to see it again, I live in Holbury. I am not sure how you would like to contact me, E-mail, mobile or landline ?
