He has owned it since he bought it brand new in 1972!

65,000 miles... and it hasn't been restored at all. Arches were done about 10 years ago, along with wheels, sand blasted and Re painted

He said it would have to go if petrol ever went over 50p A GALLON!!

Such a great car to drive.

I take it he's never put the hood up?

(TR6 drivers are famously overly manly, in case that joke's lost on anyone :P ).

Safron , now a very rare colour . I'n July 82, I found a 72 Tr6 via Exchange and Mart I'n Cambridge . She cost me £550 , EJH 638K was Also Safton . I rebuilt her rotten body and painted her Mimosa Yellow . Sold her to a now Ex mate I'n early 84. Often wonder what became of her .

By today's standards British cars of the 70s were produced in some "interesting " colours.

My 1974 V8 in Bracken - looks similar to Saffron.

I had a 74 BGT in Tundra. Like a higly polished tank!

Nice to see the correct (for the period) reflective plates too. It makes me wince when I see cars of that period with black and silver plates, they certainly wouldn't have had them when they were new.

That'll be one of the last 150bhp ones, won't it?

I had a K reg back in the 60s. How the hell is the mechanical Lucas injection still working..?

I bought a brand new Triumph Spitfire Mk 4 in Pimento red first reg 1st January 1973, and had black and silver mirrorline plates fitted.

Strictly speaking these were illegal because the black and white/ black and silver plates finished the day before, although I was never stopped, as the car could have been registered in August 1972 with a "L" plate.

I'm not talking so much about what was and is legally permissable, so much as what was customary. Certainly from G suffix registrations onwards virtually all new cars would have had reflective plates. Very few people at the time didn't want to make it quite clear to others that their car was brand new (and that would include TR6s, if not Spitfires smile)

Saffron and magenta are my two favourite colours for TR6s. Many changed colour when they were unpopular so there's not that many around and are pretty sough after now.

While in awe of your Dad for such long time ownership and for keeping the car in such good condition, surely this thread needs to expand with some period photos of his usage of the car through the years. C'mon, we need more!

Am I the only one who's always had a "thing" for the MGB Tundra colour? Also, get very doey-eyed when I see any Jaguar in Sherwood Green. One day an Suffolk SS will be built in Sherwood Green with matching wires yes
