D Types are surprising pleasant on the road.
A couple of years back when my car was in for some work at CKL, I called them from the station and CKL himself said
"Are you on your own?"
Yes
"I've got to take a car for a quick road test, mind squeezing into the passenger seat of a D Type"
bloody stupid question!

Fabulous stuff. I know OKV3 is a works car but I don't recognise the plate on the Long Nose at the front (although I know that RW was often part of Jaguar works plates. Anyone any ideas?
LordBretSinclair, on a similar note, I was just on my way back (in my teenage years!) from the Phoenix pub (monthly classic car meet)in Hartley Witney in the early eighties when two Ds came hairing passed at more than considerable speed in the oposite direction. Turning back to have a look, we found them already parked up back at the pub. Turns out they were a genuine Long nose and short nose that were currently on the books at Duncan Hamilton's old show room up the road in Bagshot and they'd brought them out for a bit of fun! Last seen flooring them back up the A30. Don't know who was driving them or which cars they were (can't remember the plates), but sadly, you just don't see that sort of thing anymore (or at least I don't!). Shame!

About 6 years ago I bought Le Mans D Type rep on Ebay for about £6000. Trailered it to the workshop and spent about £2K sorting it out. Used it for a year and had sooo much fun in it. Then a mate wanted it and came in with 2 Tesco bags with £12000 in - what do you do? He still has it almost unused since then, and has spent about £8000 on it. Probably up for sale soon.
The Le Mans reps were one of the better ones as they had been moulded from and original car. Even had the "rivets" in the fibreglass.
Oh a story of that car. I was going from here to Shelsley Walsh for the hillclimb. I had just been worrying a 911 down Fish Hill near Evesham and it cut out. Pulled into a layby and had a look. Petrol pump buzzing but no petrol getting through. Damn. Sussed that the petrol pickup pipe from the tank unit in the top of the tank had broken and dropped into the tank. I only had about 3 feet of petrol hose with me, so I got a screwdriver and handy nearby brick and punched a hole in the top of the tank. Made it just gig enough to get the hose into the tank, connected the other end to the pump. Hey presto. All going again.
I replaced the tank later. Much later. Ran with it like that for about 2000 miles.....

Oy! LordBrettSinclair! This is a Jag posting, keep your Aston crowd under control please. Jealousy won't get you anywhere
That's rich coming from someone who has 3 Astons in his "Fantasy Garage" Fantastic photo - any more details? Name of young lady at the wheel? I bet there are some great stories surrounding that day.

Yes the Aston's the next step up for me. I know they say that you only have self limiting beliefs but when I look at my bank balance somedays I think "Nahh...I really do mean I can't afford one!"
Hope you like the one below. I tend to "Google" a lot and save pics that I happen to like; later on when something comes up in conversation I drop them in,if appropriate, however as I rarely make a note of where it came from in the first place or to whom publishing rights should be attributed I sometime can't say more than "here you go!"
One of these day's I'm sure someone will sue my ass off! lol!
Just to tease you a bit further I think I may have a couple of others in this series as well- I'll hunt around in my laptop.
That looks like my friends car. If it is then its the 1955 le mans winner. Owned and rebuilt by Nigel Webb. I bought an XKSS rep from Nigel and even though it was only a replica it looked and drove like a genuine one. He also owns the oldest C Type as well as an E Type, SS100, several XK's MK1's XJ13 Rep, XJ220 and many more.
