A few years back there used to be a great Classic car meet once a month at The Bull Inn, Stanford Dingly, Berkshire.

Well the new owners of the pub are keen to reinstate the meet up and I went along this afternoon to the first of this years meets... Not many there but still with the weather the way it is today it was a very enjoyable run out and to sit outside enjoying a cold drink was most welcome indeed!!!

The rest of the dates for this year are....

9th June

14th July

11th August

8th September

All meets are starting from midday.

Be great if some more locals are able to make these smile

Classic cars and a beer in the sunshine... doesn't get much better than that! Glad you had a pleasant time.
'Will have to look this up on the map as it may make a nice run out - nice to go somewhere different.

Saladin, this is great news! I used to live very close to Stanford Dingley and remember well when the previous owner Bob Archard [co-founder of the JEC] started these 'drive-ins'; they were VERY popular with a great mix of people, cars, and bikes.

Tell me, are the new owners planning to continue the BBQ's? Look forward to seeing you on the 9th June...will bring some of the chaps along driving

ALL, am based in Oxfordshire which is reasonably central...anyone fancy a classic convoy to The Bull for the 9th June? We could rendezvous at A34/A44 Peartree Junction [hotel car park] for say 11.00a.m., then take cross country route to Stanford Dingley; time approx' 45mins.

But unless you knew Andy Ambrose or Pat and Trudy, then you're just a newbie. wink

Glad to say I'm and oldie. Remember many a wintery night listening to Pats humour and Trudy's hen-pecking + having a general moan at any customer who stepped out of line. If we were lucky Pat would play a tune or two. It seems a long time ago since they were at The Bull. You mentioning them has brought back a flood of memories; thank you Doofus. Will we meet on the 9th?

Sadly not, I'll be out of the country frown

Besides, if I go to The Bull, my mum will find out, so to keep the peace, I'd have to go there too...

I've not lived around there for more than twenty years, but it's still my 'local'. The only pub I could walk into, and have a pint of Worthington pulled and on the bar by the time I got to it.

I even nearly bought it after one of its first financial crises.frownfrown

Many people feel the same in still having The Bull as their 'local' despite moving away many years ago. For me I'll always have two locals, 1. The Bull and 2. The Pot Kiln at Frilsham [when Phil & Linda Gent owned the place]; I'm sure you know it too. In both pubs, order of the day would be a pint of Good Old Boy or Brick Kiln. Sometimes The Royal Oak in Yattendon would be what was needed with the excellent food...but always The Bull and The Potty as locals.

The Pot Kiln was a bit out of the way, and the roadkill pies they used to make, whilst popular, weren't my kind of thing.

Royal Oak? Not often. Mainly because The Nut And Bolt was on the way.

So for me, it was the Bull, or the Bolt.

And usually both. smile

Great response chaps cool

There were a lot of barbecue grills outside yesterday so whether they will be putting these to use for upcoming meets we will have to wait and see I guess

Hope to meet some of you next month smile

A mile down the road from me and I missed it! Mind you two red 944's would have been a bit too much. See you at the next one.

Good to see the Bull meet-up is getting going again, I used to be a regular... Very sad about Robert, I will do my best to get down there again and sup a fine ale amongst the usual eclectic mix of classics, exotica and downright strange! Must get one of my old sheds running!

Herr Duzmeister Heeeeee-slap, it's a long time since you've posted here; welcome back on this gloriously sunny day. And with which shed would Sir care to travel in on the 9th? Is the Plastic Healey'd Pig still around? I believe that Duzmeister Junior will be joining us with either an Italian Job or the 6-pot Autobahn Storm Trooper. It would be good to share a pint of Good Old Boy with you beer

Yours affectionately,
Herr Onkle Yarn Spinner

My parents used to go there a lot back in the late 70's to early 90's, we lived a mile or so away. Several of our projects arrived home on the landlords car trailer! I know Phil was a good friend of theirs too.
I live very close by but I'm working on the 9th, might try and make the end of it.
Went through the ford nearby recently, was bone dry again...1976 revisited!
What is the tipple in the Bull these days?

It's good to see the meets starting up again. Almost a memorial to Bob. I went to several as a fellow founder of the JEC and the variety of cars was excellent. I'll try and get to some of them this year.

Anyone going this weekend? I might drag the family and in-laws along for lunch if it's sunny.
