Often in the shadow of the Equine and Bovine marques of same region of Northern Italy, classics from the Trident were nevertheless the equal and occasionally superior to their automotive cousins. Under the radar for so many years, enthusiasm for classic Maserati is now increasing in parallel with the great strides the modern offerings have made. So perhaps it’s time for a specific thread on them, I recon A6 through to Kyalami, that’s 1946 to 1983. Anecdotes, your cars, restorations, spotted, motorsport, shows, cars/parts for sale etc, anything goes – lets see what you’ve got. As a starter, I know of two Ghibli, not including my own project, being restored within the M25, one RHD, the other an early low boot lid model with Borrani’s. I also know of a very sorry Sebring just outside of the M25 and I sold some pistons to someone near Dartford with a superb restored Mexico and another he had just sold requiring restoration. I’ll do my best to post more details with their consent. A quick heads-up - the Maserati Club Concours is on Sunday 3rd June at Stanford Hall http://www.auto-italia.co.uk/events.asp

Great idea ! I just can't describe how good it was in the early 70s being a passenger in my Late dads Gold 68 Ghibli AM 115 100 . He loved that car . It's out there ( Germany I believe ) and I know I will see it again someday . I still have most of it's Original Paperwork and Italian front no plate !
In the early 80s I went to the Richmond area for bits for one of my TR6s and parked by the kerb and very run down looking was a Mistral. It was owned by the TR parts guy and had been painted a hideous bright yellow. It was out of my price range sadly. I often wonder what became of it .

Great thread. I visited my 4.2 1968 Mexico yesterday to get an update on the bodywork refurbishment and we have some more repairs to do in the bottom of the rear nearside wing. Just the usual rust which is being chopped-out and repaired with new metal. Thankfully the offside looks much better but it's likely to be another month or so before it comes home and I can't wait to make a start on the oily stuff. I've stripped out the carpets ready to have a new set made up and noticed that both the brake and clutch master cylinders are weeping in the footwell so that will be the first task on the list.... I'll keep you all updated Paul

Thought you guys might like this, I was in Desenzano for this years Mille Miglia and saw this tucked off to one side. Obviously work ongoing but a lovely car anyway. Maybe someone can ID the type for me. G

Also unusual to see wheels so close to the edge of the wheel arches on a car of this period, if it is indeed of the period it looks.

Barbarossa said: Interesting description on the first page about the Ghibli: 'The Ghibli model with Ghia bodyshell was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. This gorgeous coupé (followed by a magnificent spider version built in 140 models) had an aggressive and runny appearance, but not too flashy.' Aggressive and runny appearance, but not too flashy

I see Jay Kay is selling his beautiful A6G. Amazing how they made cars look so beautiful and elegant, but fantastically agressive at the same time. Now I see where the grille design for the current Grandsport came from..... Paul

For me the Jay Kay A6GCS Pin has one of the less successful front end treatments. I believe when bought by him it had a more conventional grille and he had the original design replicated when the car was restored (I think?). And yes the boy has clearly lost his marbles selling it. I recon this trumps the Jay Kay car though.

The thing I like about the above two cars is that they manage to blend a classic GT look with something unmistakably Maserati. There is no missing the similarities to the Ferrari 250 series but it is different, its own car not an homage.

Love that Jay Kay car. I dimly recall seeing a Ghibli for sale in the Thames Valley Autotrader in probably 79-81-ish ... £6000 from memory.

3500GT My God what a beauty. Sebring 3500 GT in swift mode. Never understood why a period DB4/5 has the higher price tag. Mistral

Yes, how can a DB4 ( and 5) be so much more valuable than a 60 s Maserati ? Its mental .
As a boy I remember seeing a Kirk Douglas film in which he drives a convertible 3500 GT . Anyone remember it ?

Unfortunately James Bond didn't drive a Maserati, the only reason I can see why DB5s go for what they do.
