I too watched it , but not right to the end . It was good viewing , but i felt that there was far too little praise for Ken Miles . I was wondering what became of him, Very sad to hear that he was killed.

Ken Miles was a very underrated racing driver and engineer. He won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1966 and also nearly won Le Mans in the same year, but Ford tried to arrange the finish so that the three GT40's crossed the line together. His car was in the lead, but slowed to allow the McLaren/Amon car to catch up. In the event of a dead heat, the rules then said the car that had traveled furthest was the winner. The McLaren/Amon car had started further back, so they won.

I loved (and also hated) the Dragon Lady's cosmetic surgery - her doctor had contrived to make her look the same in her seventies as she did in her thirties, but in quite a weird and scary way.
It was also fun to see Lee Iacocca talking car stuff.
Robbie Coltrane is, of course, a big petrolhead, but may have become too large to fit inside some of the cars in his extensive collection. I sometimes know the feeling!

Have a read of "Go like Hell" by A J Baime, it give an account of Ford's assault on Le Mans, mire focused on the GT40, but also covers the Cobra. You'll the esteem that he was held in, including 'that' finish.

What I found interesting is the cobras oil pump failed eth 6-8 hours to go no parts so bypassed it and hoped that the temps wouldn't go too much over 300 degrees.
But racing flat out te oil temp most certainly did stay at that level for the remaining time the worry being pipes would melt degrade etc so they had to manage lap times.
