I suppose there's no hard and fast law about it, but I reckon most people see it this way - Kit's Coty is lilac, Sutton Benger is lavender.

The thing is that lavender comes in a variety of colours, including white and is darker in bloom than it when dried. Some are blue, some pale purple, some even pinky heatherish in colour but i think what we tend to think is lavender is akin to this

Even Google shows the lilac purple. I guess the colour I like so much is Lavender Blue.

Ok so it is called Silk Violet and a lot of people would say not a classic but here goes
