Good work.

My father had a Minx on about an H plate - same body, but single round headlights and an odd mushy-pea green colour. He replaced it with a Hunter 'Super' on an M plate - dark red with tan vinyl. Both last seen somewhere in the damp bit of Somerset around Midsomer Norton.

Grandfather had a white estate - not sure if it was a Minx or a Hunter, I think Minx, and grandmother had two Rapiers, one blue and one orange.

Great car you've got there.

My dad had a GLS, white with black interior and black vinyl roof, when I was a kid and my first memory of our family cars was riding in that car.

Reg. was RDU 498M. Long gone I guess...

My Mum had a GLS with Holbay bits, white with a vinyl black roof. Great fun but made many friends in the dealer's workshop.

My Dad wrote it off by a side-swipe of a combine harvester bed. I was in the back seat and got a face full of glass. He was belting it a bit though.

Happy days. cool

I love what you've done to it, great job. I'm in the market for a well sorted Holbay Hunter GLS like yours. Can you let me know when you put it on the market?

I own a 1725cc Hunter on a single carb. Its not fast but quite happy in modern traffic. As its 4 speed with out OD you will not be doing over 70mph for long. Handling is also fine for normal driving. Gearbox is nice. Brakes (mine are rebuilt all round) are good. Steering is a little-having parking and there is a little play as box, not rack and pinion.
Front wings are a pain to get hold of and will cost between £150-£250 each if you can find them. The rest is not to hard to find. You can still get uprated bits for it so making it handle better or be faster can be done.
Its fun being stopped so often and ask about the car or people just waving and smiling.

So go for it.

When i was growing up in the High Wycombe area back in the early 80s a friend called Rob Hardy had a bronze GLS hunter on an L reg, Went loads of places in it and pretty quickly most of the time, It was replaced with a mk4 2.0 S cortina but have very fond memories of the Hunter. The noise of the carbs was addictive when on hard throttle.

They are a little before my time - I only remember them as old cars. What did the Hunter compete against when it was new?

In Slough in mid eighties I too had a mate who "upgraded from a Hunter GLS to a 2.0s Cortina.
Between a small group of friends we must have had a dozen GLS between us. They were very cheap at the time.
