To OldMerc, thx, it was post-WW2 racing car manufacturer I was trying to find out about, this could be it.

Here one I posted on a Morgan forum a couple of years ago but no-one there knew anything of the company:



Presumably no connection at all with the present company founded by HFS Morgan(or if there is then the celebrated their centenary three years too late!)

Another one for you is Lammas Graham, Pre war, based on an American Chassis and Engine (Graham), they featured a straight 6 3.7L Supercharged engine.
There's currently only one on the road, of which my late father did most of it's restoration, it's new owner finished it off and it now looks stunning.

This was her in 1938 by the Cathedral in Lichfield:



This is her after the restoration, new owner on the left, me on the right at my sisters wedding, he managed to get it finished just in time for her wedding, made for a very special moment, almost like having a bit of our dad there with us.





If someone wants more info or pics let me know, i've got about 3 albums worth of them all through the restoration.

That Sir is quite stunning!!!!...yesterday i was actually reading an article in an old Classic & Sportscar mag on a guy who has restored a 1929 Graham-Paige 615 from a wreck.When restoring/rebuilding a car which is rare as this how do you manage to find all the component parts to do it? or is it a case of having items manufactured or adapting parts to suit....it amazes me the ability of people who restore cars such as this one...well done!

I visited the Discovery museum in Newcastle recently & they had a very fine Armstrong Whitworth on display, a car built in the town.

One obscure car I really like is the Gordon Keeble...

In answer to the original question a mark which fascinates me is Maredaz. They started out in London but wound up being built near where I live in Maidenhead. I only came across them because one was up for auction a few years ago and was featured in out local paper. Being like a scaled down Bentley I was rather taken to it. In eventuality it only made about £25k and I rather wish I'd put in a serious bid for it.

You're probably thinking of Gilbern, Gordon Keebles were made at Eastleigh in Hampshire. There's an active GK topic here at Any Gordon Keeble Owners Out There?

Some of the early Alvis (10-30) had Morgan "Zephyr" bodies. At VSCC Prescott we were talking to a 10/30 (and 12/50 & 30/98) owner. The restoration of his car is proceding and the body is next, but the metal (rather than ash) frame is an issue. Another 10/30 was owned by the Alvis factory and I think is now at the Coventry Museum. It also has a Morgan, Long Acre, body.

There's no post whatsoever in Georgano's tome. I suspect that they never actually built a car. As I mentioned in an earlier post, at about this time many back-street garages and home-based charlatans tried to set up car manufacturing firms, to get on the bandwagon.

They were probably intending to construct a body of their own design onto a bought-in chassis. There were no Advertising Standards and Trades Descriptions Acts in those days - ads could claim whatever they wanted. The picture in their ad could even have been of another make of car!

The most likely explanation is that it was a one-off 500cc racer (Formula 3). There were umpteen of these specials made at the time, that class of racing was really popular for about 10 years in the late 40s to the late 50s.

Could you be thinking of the Parker, built by very successful F3 racer Don Parker?

That racing special was built in Los Angeles in 1951 for Don Parkinson after his original 1949 model crashed at Pebble Beach.
Go to www.conceptcarz.com and you can find out all about it in the 1949 Jaguar section,and just about every other car,some you have never heard of??

How about this one, the Lloyd (no connection with the German company). Made between 1946 and 1950, about 400 built, powered by a 650cc V-twin 2-stroke. Rumour had it that the wooden framing for the bodywork was made from old fish-boxes - the car was manufactured in Grimsby. They wanted £480 for it at a time when a Ford Pop was less than £300....

I think I can trump that with the Mendip, built (I believe) in the village of Chewton Mendip just north of Wells, Somerset. A few hundred made but only one thought to survive - I've no idea where, does anyone?

Oh er, a competition....

The OP likes 50s sports cars, so I give you the Marauder, made by two Rover employees, and based on P4 mechanicals. Manufactured between 1950 and 52, and only 15 built
