Heads up, Channel Five Monday 24th Sept 20:00

http://www.channel5.com/shows/classic-car-rescue

Bernie Fineman and Mario Pacione restore shameful rust buckets to their former ‘classic car’ glory in this new six-part series. In a TV first, viewers will also get the opportunity to win the restored classic car at the end of each episode by entering weekly competitions!

The fiery duo will restore a Jaguar E-Type, a Mini Cooper, a Cadillac, a Ford Mustang, a Porsche 911 and an MGB Roadster. Working to a tight deadline and an even tighter budget, they scour scrapyards, wasteland and backyards to find bargain wrecks with great potential. Having found the cars, they then need to source the rare, original parts and piece together the vital organs of these sleeping beasts to re-create their classic beauty.

But will the job be good enough to impress an expert valuer and put a glittering price tag on the gleaming bonnet? Sparks and spanners fly as Bernie and Mario meet designers, engineers, owners and lovers of these magnificent cars and discuss why these models turned dreams into reality, how they introduced new technology and why they were such a success.

After hard work, some late-nights and last-minute sorties for spare parts, the day arrives for the official presentation and viewers can finally see why these cars became such classics.

Anyone know the "fiery duo",

+1. It'll probably be as bad as the offerings from Mr. Brewer and Mr. China - definitely one to miss frown

Didn't 'Wheeler Dealers' do EXACTLY this?? Get an ol' classic, 'restore' it, then give it away in a competition? I think they did..........still, nice to get some new ideas on the telly, eh?

Yeah, a Jag XK8.

From memory I think they just changed the wheels and grill, and gave it a polish.

I remember Mark Evans presenting a programme on Channel 4 or 5 called Dream Machine, after the build Amanda Stretton test drove and then it was offered as a prize.

Yeah I remember it too, first car they restored was a Ferrari 308 GTB, or it might have been a GTS.

Also, new on Quest (on digital, channel 38?) there is a new programme advertised called "south beach classics" about a US based classic car dealership. Could be interesting

"....Ted's buddy Dutch Frank drives a hard bargain on a Monte Carlo and a Mustang. Plus, a customer has second thoughts about a Camaro trade - how will Ted react?...."

One of the best television moments of all time was supplied by Mark Evans. Some girl was restoring a car and it wasn't going well. He came over to help motivate her by giving her a jumbo sized portrait of himself. The whole handing over ceremony on the doorstep was quality.

British version of pimp my ride, and defiantly made for American tv.

How much fills was in that crunched rear wing..........no I don't want to win it.

Could have been a really good show, zero detail about the engine work, mostly about finding the car and history behind it.

Just hope they don't go and butcher something I'd like.

Surely the car that was "Rescued" was the one they didn't buy.

Predictable fake "reality" TV. But then we already knew that...
