"Classic Car Rescue" Channel 5 on Mon 24th Sep 20:00
Discussion
Just been browsing the TV guide for the Sunday Times, and the letters from viewers were also seriously critical of the "experts" and the standard of work. Are the producers of this show really naive, or are they doing it as some sort of "in" joke? The work reminds me of the sort of car you see when responding to a local ad, "lovely car, fully restored, must be seen", when in fact it's been done by a halfwit in his lock-up, and his idea of a restoration is hiding rusty sills with chrome covers, and steam-cleaning the engine bay.
I'm not claiming to be an MG expert, but a converted rubber-bumper car will usually be worth less than a "proper" one, however nice it looks. MG fans aren't stupid. (I think Wheeler dealers did the same job). A half-decent chrome GT will fetch £7/8k tops, and maybe only £4/5k at auction, unless it's got history. So you're right, the RM monkey will probably say £10k.

Not all. I watched the first one, decided it was total rubbish and e-mailed Channel 5 with my opinion. I didn't watch the second programme and definitely won't be watching any more. Not watching it is the only language a TV company will understand, perhaps others should do it if they dislike the series so much.

The funniest thing is, you're all complaining about how st this show is - but you're all the majority of you are still watching it week in and week out!
One way or another, they've gotyou all the majority of you hooked on it!
this seems to cover it nicely!:
Car Crash TV :
Any TV program that, like a recent car crash in the street, you know you shouldn't watch, you know you'll regret looking, but you just can't help yourself!
Better now? One way or another, they've got

And for those no longer watching: How can you continue to criticise a show that you are no longer watching?

All the talk of profit from these "restorations"
OK if it was done in spare time by the owner of the car that would be profit.
But these bodgers have 8 or so guys doing the work for them, so they have to be paid, and working "through the night" as they said the painter guy did, the cost of wages more than wipes out any profit!
But Hey it keeps us busy moaning, and as one voice calling it rubbish!
But we will tune in next week I bet!
That was exactly my thought on the "profit" - how much profit would that show if the workshop which did the work put it through the books properly after paying wages etc? Or if it was done by an individual how long would it take? Either way, the profit figure would look much lower.OK if it was done in spare time by the owner of the car that would be profit.

I'm surprised RM are prepared to put their name to someone showing so little knowledge about the car, never mind the valuation. An expert would know more about the car and recognise non standard parts.
But I'll probably watch again.
