Clutch, alas. Hey, on any variant of Beta you expect to do the cable every time you put screen wash in, but this is the actual clutchy metal clutchy thing.

That is the one that was on eBay recently, but the scrap yard owner does not reply to emails asking about parts, and the phone is never answered. The blower is gone already. The seats might be worth getting.

OMG I am such a tart. Mock away, people! I have bought A20 VLX from DVLA. Sad, bogus, absurd, I know. Oh, the shame! The car's windows are etched A144 KEL, but I drive it like I stole it anyway, so meh.

New plate less expensive than new clutch, yowch!

PS: A20 HPE was a grey metallic Volumex that was scrapped long ago. My car has the owner's handbook from that car.

I can think of no reason for us to mock you when you have already done so yourself in advance and in such volume on this very subject.

At least it is one which relates to the car rather than to the driver, which would have been tragic indeed.

I might have mentioned in the past that I know someone with a Saab registered T944 BHP, which caught my eye, but is of course far too 'young' for my 944 turbo.

Last week I saw a red Audi TT called JUS 2 HOT. The driver was a woman. I had a shuftie at her as I passed. The ASA and Trading Standards have been contacted.

I saw a modern 911 (or whatever we are supposed to call them nowadays) the other day called 911 P. That cannot have been a cheap plate to buy.

I also saw a Daimler SP250 with the plate SP250. He was going like the absolute clappers on the M40.

A new clutch means one less thing to go wrong when driving in a spirited fashion.

Private plates can be good. Most are not. Something like that SP250 one is brilliant though.

this looks familiar:

Just to tease you, there's a possibility of two VXs (one Coupe and one HPE) being available in the future depending on how other factors pan out. Both are solid projects and have been dry stored for a long time.

That eBay ad is a piece of spivvery! The Spyder has some rust. Nothing serious, just some minor flaky pastry, but to say that there is no rust anywhere is a fib. Also it could do with having its suspension bushes looked at. It is a very sound car, but not worth 5k! The dealer selling it bought it last Saturday for about 2.5.

No thanks on any more VXs, cheers. One is enough. I would like some better front seats. That's all!

PS: "numerous awards" - Some rosettes from some small local shows, none recent. Dealers, eh?

Christ, your old car has been passed round like the port recently. I posted a link to it at an auction house a couple of weeks ago after you let it go.

Yep, it sold at Coys last Saturday. Whoever bought it is, it appears from the ad, trying to make a quick profit of almost 100%. I may be wrong, but the eBay ad looks to me to be from a trader pretending to be a private seller. I have sent eBay a note about that and about the rust claim, as I know that the car has some minor corrosion. Nothing to preclude an MoT, but it is dodgy to say no rust at all when you should say no (currently) significant rust. The radio was not working either, so unless he's fixed that since Saturday (and he might have done) he is telling a minor porkette about "everything working". OK, that's only a radio, but it's better to be straight. One of the seat belt clips was broken. Maybe fixed since Saturday, but who knows? The boot lid doesn't lock, or at least it didn't. All minor matters, but the car was not perfect when I last saw it. If you entered it in a show tomorrow, it would not win a prize.

Someone had new volumex cloth on the roll both coupe and hpe a while back , I think they ran out of coupe cloth but may well still have hpe stuff let me know if you want me to dig out the details. Looking back on this thread I see comments about carbs, the original dca36 is probably a little bit under specified not sure why they fitted it but the fact that it had an auto choke and was in volume production in slightly different format for various simca/chrysler/talbot maybe swung it on economy grounds(?), GC would always recommend a DCOE straight onto the blower via a custom inlet but it is a snug fit and if you prefer something more original looking a 40dcnf fits the original intakes with some very minor adaptation and has a manual choke.

Betaboyz and Omicron think that there is none of the Zegna cloth left, but if you know of a possible source that would be fab, thanks. Failing that I may get some leather inserts for the side bolsters. I am happy with the standard carb, as the boggo HPE Volumex is plenty rapid for wahoos and OMG NIPs galore.

A supercharger pulley with one less tooth will pep it up a bit too, although when my coupe was last on the road (sometime about 12 years ago) it could easily smoke its tyres accidentally from a standing start totally standard one of the best engines for the traffic light Grand Prix as power is instant but don't be under any illusions nowhere near as quick as a later 16v turbo lancia

Erm we may be at cross purposes. I hardly ever read or post in the General Gassing forum because power and speed comparisons between different cars interest me not at all. An HPE Volumex is what it is. There are lots of cars faster than it. I add that I gave up traffic light Grand Prix when I was in my twenties!

Well yes I don't race these days too old for all that stuff but it's nice to have a car that is really nice and responsive. My vx is completely in bits so a few easy improvements aren't much effort I probably wouldn't bother if it was all together in one piece. The torque of the vx is great the only thing that disappoints is its relative reluctance to rev compared with an ie
