1990s music is mostly a huge gap for me. I was a teenager in the mid to late 70s and a student in the 80s, but stopped listing to rock and pop after about the mid 80s, and listened pretty much only to classical and jazz and blues from then on. I only started listening to da YOOF stuff again circa 2010 , so it was straight from the 80s to Lady Gaga with nothing in between. I usually have soundtracks in my cars that match their ages, mixed with various classical stuff, mainly opera. The Volumex sound track recently - apart from supercharger WHOOSH and twin cammy hum - has been mixed late 70s punk and new wave, the Eurythmics played extra loud, and Carlo Bergonzi and Joan Sutherland doing La Traviata in an early 60s recording that may never have been equalled.

The clutch is on, and the car, after a month on its arse, has been out for a good Italian tune up, with Mrs BV approving. The old clutch next to the new shows just how dead the old one was.

Could look at 'old car perched on drive being worked on' photos all day, they usually give me a much needed boost to get on with my own heaps too. Is there much spare room around the radiator to get it out, or is it akin to the 'old Mini / skinned knuckled' desease?

Oh, by the way BV, Marianne Faithful has just been on the blower, says she would like to have her fabulous '60s sunglasses back please ;-)

Not a lot of room, and I expect I would have no knuckles left at all if I were to do the gig.

Mrs BV is quite good at rocking the Marianne Faithful look when she wants to, but hasn't done quite as much DRERGZ as MF.

A gunmetal grey VX Coupe has just popped up on Car and Classic and sold within a day or so. Looks good in the photos, but low price (from a dealer) may suggest some underlying issues.

My old Spider went for about 3.5 a week or two ago on eBay.

Not a dealer that I would ever expect a bargain from, but it does look like the basis of a really good car in fact rather looks like it was a gift for someone if it really is as original and tidy as it appears. I have to wonder why I persevere with my heap of junk!

Appears to be relisted due to time wasters who presumably expected he car to be as described (?) seller claims a mint/concours one to be worth £8k well if really concours maybe but I've never seen a spider sell for that much even though they really ought to be

That does look nice, amazing to see a 1 owner 30k miles example! It brings back memories of my Vx coupe it was very similar and had those lovely recaros ( a big deal back in those days!)

As I have mentioned before my old Spider is a sound enough car but it is not flawless and the recent eBay advert does in my opinion talk it up a bit.

Now the ad has been toned down a bit, but the guy's car selling skills are not exactly Swiss Toni!

I saw that too. A bit scabby, but not too bad. I am told that the 1600s are a pleasant drive but have never tried one.

Mmmm. Sheddy.

If you are in the market for a Volumex project, this year seems to be a good time to be looking.

Lovely engine smooth and high revving but the lack of torque is a slight issue for me, the carb 2000 is better in this respect but a bit more gruff and neither so smooth nor so rev hungry

Looks like it has been out in the wet for some time due to plenty of green stains, did the seller really say it has been dry stored?

This crossed my mind too. It could be pre-storage: if it was parked up under a tree for 6 months, but it definitely does not look like it's gone straight from use to dry storage and then sale without sitting around outside for at least a few months. I'm also surprised when people can't put an hour into cleaning a car, even if it is a project like that.

It looks bad on one side and not so bad on the other, so perhaps it was in an open sided structure partly exposed to the weather.

Meanwhile, I gather from the Betaboyz forum that the seller of my old Spider claims to have bought it from someone who sold it for 5K despite knowing of its faults. This sounds like baloney to me.

Looks very complete and straight from what you can see in those photos, although of course it could be dire close up. In that environment the car looks like it would stay mega dry, although there will be dust in every nook and cranny. I wonder if that is the one I was offered the other week? I have not yet seen it and the dude who told me about it has gone quite. Maybe the owner has twigged that he was selling it too cheap.

I suspect it's rather gone to seed.
