More a case of “classic that is as big as its modern equivalent” than anything being dwarfed - W123 parked behind my VF2 wagon…

The Holden is only about 100mm longer and wider, with a wheelbase about 150mm longer, yet still has all the modern crash protection. Knowing how big the Holden is inside, that Merc must be mahoosive, and the W116 simply cavernous!
Probably another thread, but this thread always makes me wonder if any cars got smaller. The rover 200 r8 to r3 and the late 90s civic to the one the looked like a mini van spring to mind.

I think the MR2 mark 3 was smaller than the mark 2.

Is the MX-5 ND lighter than the NC?

Infamously W140 was quite a bit bigger than W220 - even if the difference wasn't quite a great as it appeared to be.

Apparent the market wanted a more modest, restrained and relatively economical offering. The notion seems almost laughable today!

The VW Up was nearly a foot shorter than the VW Fox.

It may have been mentioned before, but this is an interesting site for comparisons:

The Fiat 500, for example:

There is something wrong with that image. Why is the front wheel so much larger than the back one.

A bit of wide angle lens distortion and a bit of perspective.

Agree, looks weird, I just took a screenshot of the Insta post though.

Someone on the post comments said that the pic looked like two model cars of different scales...

Take the MX5 and Viper as the classics, compared to the modern Challenger. Yes the Challenger is a 4 seater but it's still massive. The other surprise was how close in size the MX5 and Viper are, The Viper is basically MX5 size with extra bonnet. In width, the Viper is a lot wider.

I can’t cope with that photo. At all. My brain cannot compute.

Vipers, in my mind, were/are absolutely massive. I remover seeing a mk1 Viper for the first time in London in about 1993 and it was HUGE. I remember my Dad commenting that it must be quite a handful on UK roads.

Mind blown.

Saw this one yesterday, the mini's roof is barely above the bonnet of the SUV The fiat looks bigger even in the background.

Every time I see a mini now on the roads it takes me by suprise how small they are, or how large everything else is

It’s a well known fact that when launched the mini was the largest car on sale in the UK.
The name was ironic.

Agreed. lol

Someone on PH must own a Viper that we can use to recreate it to check!

I can’t understand how it can be accurate and have zoomed in to check for image distortions! But the door mirrors are all pretty consistent in being the same size. How, how can this be right?!

It must just be an optical illusion. Try measuring them on your screen and they are proportionally correct, with the Viper being ~12% longer than the MX5 as per the real dimensions.

First, Challengers are friggin' huge. Second, Vipers really are small. I remember seeing one in traffic in Washington DC. It was about the same size as my e46, which really surprised me.
