Actually not that bad compared to the old/new 500 and the Escort/Focus.

Agreed on the 33!

Amazing difference . . . no wonder todays cars are so heavy.

Dimensionally, moderns aren't actually that much more huge. I think it's mainly the greatly reduced glass area and increased "boxiness" (multiply a car's width by it's length by it's height - a modern will fill a MUCH higher percentage of that volume) of modern cars that causes this effect. The styling of modern cars may also have something to do with it - they generally have "aggressive" styling while most classics have "elegant" styling.

Gentlemen's expresses have changed somewhat. OK, it's a bit unfair to compare that Rolls to anything ancient or modern, but its sheer vastness is breathtaking.

It is a valid comparison, yesterday I saw a Silver Shadow being followed by a Skoda Fabia and the Skoda was as tall and pretty much as wide as the Shadow, I'm sure it would be dwarfed by a new Rolls.

After taking this yesterday, I did some measuring against another classic in the car park (a SIIA Land-Rover). The R-R's wings were the same height as those on the Landie and its wheels are bigger. Maybe that pair would have made a more illustrative picture.

25 year old Golf vs new FIAT 500L. Does the L stand for "Lofty"?

The L if "Lardy" yes "Fat Five Hundred" is the correct term for them.

Would love to see a piccy of Current/Latest 'MINI' next to a 1970's 'maxi' - Methinks the current mini would dwarf the Maxi biggrin

I have wondered that, must look up the dimensions one day.

The Mini dealership in Springfield near Chelmsford currently have a 1275GT and a new Countryman next to each other on display - seems a strange thing for the dealer to point out how un-Mini the new one is to me. Didn't manage to get a photo.

That's a 1000cc v-twin bike and sidecar, with a Lucas King of the Road headlight. It would have been really quite imposing back in the late 1920s I reckon. Kinda dwarfed by a feckin' Fiesta now frown

A couple of my favourites of my Midget on this theme....

I reckon I could have popped the rear seats down and just put it straight in the back.

Lovely. And that's exactly how I would have parked if it was mine...
